World Book Day

At Hillstone, we are passionate about books and reading; today is a chance to really celebrate this via World Book Day! We hope you enjoy what we have put together.

Who’s Reading That?

Click on any book in the room below and you will be taken to a video of a teacher reading the start of that book, but can you guess who is reading as all the teachers have donned disguises?!? And if you would like to hear the rest of any of the books, just click on the YouTube link below the disguised teacher video to be taken to a full video of it being read.

You can then use the page numbers at the base of the page to see all the other videos, or come back to the book page if you prefer. One lucky winner will receive a £10 book token – see below for more details!

Let us know your guesses by writing them down and sending in a photo of your answers – with your name and class on too, please. We will see which children are closest and pick a winner at random from them, who will receive a £10 National Book Token.

Dressed-up Readers

Would you like to hear a picture book read to you by one of the main characters? Yes? Well, you’re in luck as we have arranged this for you with the help of some Hillstone staff and fancy dress. Just click on a book in the room below to be taken to a video of a very special someone reading it.

Reading Den Challenge

We are challenging you to create cosy den for reading, where you can relax and read or be read to.   Lots of materials could be used, but the easiest and safest are cushions, blankets, duvets, sheets.  Cuddly toys could be added as well as anything else that adds to the cosiness and generally nice feeling of the den.

Please do send us a photo of you and your reading den via Twitter and remember to tag us (@hillstoneps) and World Book Day (#worldbookday).

Book Vouchers

Normally, we send home paper £1 vouchers for World Book Day, but this year we have a digital version. Just click on the link below to download it. Please be aware that some retailers can only accept this voucher if it is printed off, but some may allow you to use it fully digitally.

However, we have also received paper vouchers in school so we will distribute those next week as well! Even though the vouchers are officially valid until 28th March, many booksellers will honour them after that date.

The £1 book tokens can then be swapped for one of our exclusive, new and completely FREE World Book Day books available from participating booksellers (see link below for more details) or used to get £1 off any full price book or audiobook instead (as long as the book or audiobook costs at least £2.99). The £1 books are also available in braille, large print & audio via Guide Dogs and RNIB.
