Art

Welcome to our art virtual classroom!

Hello everyone! As you may or may not know, I’m Miss Norton and I’m in charge of art at Hillstone Primary School. We thought it would be a nice idea to set up an art virtual classroom that you can access whenever you like. Here you will find some ideas for activities you can do at home (in the week or even at the weekend) as well as useful art learning packs and websites. Please let me know how you get on – I would love to see your art work!

COMPETITION TIME!

Have you watched this week’s assembly? If not, head over to our assembly page for this week’s assembly which is all about happiness!

To take part in our competition, simply create a piece of art work titled, ‘Happiness’ and upload it to https://virtual.hillstone.school/files/index.php/s/tYy5SMQowYjqmdz.

The most unique masterpieces will be sent off to the Birmingham Education Partnership where they will be displayed on their website. We will also be creating a Hillstone Happiness Gallery with all entries so make sure you enter!.

See some ideas below for quick activities you can do at home in the three different areas of art: drawing, painting and sculpture.

Drawing

  • Draw members of your family with different pens on different surfaces. Try pencil on paper, marker on newspaper, felt tips on cardboard or whatever else you can find!
  • Using one continuous line, draw a self-portrait (that means not taking your pen or pencil off the page until you have finished).
  • Draw your favourite animal only using straight lines. How about using only curved lines? Which one do you prefer? Why?

Painting

  • Paint the view from out of a window in your house. Look carefully at everything you see.
  • Create an abstract painting by experimenting different ways to use paint without a paintbrush. What household objects could you use?
  • Paint a household object in the style of your favourite artist e.g. paint your settee in the style of Vincent Van Gogh!

Sculpture

  • Using recycled materials from home, create a city. What will you use to create your roads? What about houses and buildings? Will you have any green space in your city?
  • Create the biggest tower using household objects? What will you use to hold it together? Will it be free standing?
  • Collect some natural objects from outside (e.g. sticks, pine cones, stones, leaves) and create a nature collage in the style of Andy Goldsworthy.
