This week we will continue to look at working out the area of shapes by beginning counting squares and then moving on to calculating the area. We will look at rectangles, compound shapes and finally irregular shapes.

Look at the following videos to make sure you have a solid understanding of how to do this.

Your task this week is to write up your letter to Newsround, explaining what we are going to be doing for the elderly members of our community. (In case you missed the previous lessons, we’re sending special Christmas letters.) Our language focus in achieving a formal tone.
