Year 4 Monday 23rd November 2020

Watch today’s welcome video here!

Good morning Year 4! Hope you’ve had a fun and relaxed weekend! Only today and tomorrow to go, then we’re back at Hillstone on Wednesday. Thank you for coming on to virtual school today. Miss Furlong and Miss Aluriya would like you to log in into virtual school every day to access the learning. It is crucial that we maintain a routine that is as close as possible to a normal school day during the next two weeks. New learning will be available each weekday and we ask that you leave us a comment (questions or messages) you have for your teacher. These will be answered daily so don’t hesitate to comment should you need any support or just want to check-in. Any work that you do, remember to tweet it @hillstoneps. Most importantly, make sure to stay safe! Have a great day!

Good News!
We now have a place that you can send your work to us. When you finish a lesson, please take a photo of what you have done and submit it here. Please make sure your name is written clearly somewhere on the photo.
If you have any other comments or questions for your teacher that you would prefer to ask privately, you can use the email address year4@hillstone.org.uk. We’re looking forward to seeing your work!

Let’s the start the day off with some early morning work! So, put your thinking hats on Year 4. Below is a picture of several things combined together – a couple of Maths, Geography, English questions, etc. These questions might be topics we may have not covered in lessons yet but that’s okay! Just give it a good go – you might learn something new! Again, if you need any support, please comment below. Make sure you have left a comment to let us know you’re here too!

Today we are going to come up with some adjective that we can use to describe India.

Task 1 – What is an adjective? What is the purpose of an adjective? Why do we use them?

From the words below, which of these are adjectives? Write the adjectives down on a paper.

pink playground pencil long vibrant

colourful shiny crowded bowl noisy

Here is a link to see if you have identified the correct adjectives!

What types of writing pieces could we use adjectives in? Below are some suggestions!

  • Story writing
  • Poetry
  • Reviews

Task 2 – Watch and listen to this song about India.

What did you notice about the places are mentioned? Did you remember any statistics about India? How would you describe what you’ve seen in the video?

Task 3 – Write a paragraph on an aspect of India that is mentioned in the video. Miss Furlong and Miss Aluriya would like you to use powerful adjectives to describe your 5 senses! You can use the adjectives word mat to give you some inspiration. Not all of the adjectives in the attachment below will be appropriate for India – ask yourself do the words represent the videos and pictures of India!

Have you entered the writing competition yet?! Look out for the full details on the main year 4 virtual classroom.

10:10-11:00

Today, we are going to studying Hindu mythology based on Rama and Sita. The new story is called ‘The Rescue of Sita’.

Before we begin, what we actually know about Hindu beliefs and mythology?

Task 1 – Can you notice any similarities between Egyptian gods and Hindu gods?

We are learning about the Hindu mythology as a lot of the stories that we will be reading are based on Hindu beliefs.

The text we are going to look at is similar to the one read last week, ‘Rama and Sita’. Do you remember how Sita was rescued?

Task 2 – Write down any similarities and differences between the ‘Rama and Sita’ story and the ‘Rescue of Sita’.

Look at this activity booklet on India.

Task 1: Pretend you’ve gone on holiday to India. What can you see? What’s the weather like? What are you going to do there? Write a postcard home to a friend or family member.

In the booklet, it talks a bit about Mehndi. Mehndi (aka henna) is a temporary tattoo that comes from India. It is traditional in Indian weddings for people to wear Mehndi on their skin as a symbol of luck. This is what is looks like:

Can you create your own Mehndi design? You could draw around your own hand on a piece of paper or you could use this hand template:

    1. I’ve just seen it Gabe – well done, it looks like you’ve worked hard on that writing. I like how you’ve made sure that you’ve used full stops and capital letters all the way through! I wonder if you could go back through and check some of your spellings? Look out for ‘whitch’ and ‘strait’. Thank you for sending it in to us.

    1. I love that Neve! How funny to think that once upon a time your mom was sitting in school learning the same things you are now! Thanks for sending it to us, I’m sure Miss Aluriya will enjoy looking at it too. ☺️

        1. Yes I’ve got it! What a great picture of your mom. She did well to keep it safe! You should get a photo of yourself in the same pose and keep it alongside it 😄
