Week beginning 8th March-Topic Lessons

Will you read me a story?

This week’s topic is all about stories that have ‘repeated refrains’. This is a repeated verse throughout a fairytale story. We will be exploring three stories that are well known for their repeated refrains:

The first is ‘The Gingerbread Man’. Watch the story below and discuss it. Can you create your own story map to describe the story of the Gingerbread Man?

The second story we will be exploring this week, is ‘The Enormous Turnip’. Watch the story below and discuss the parts of the story that are repeated. You could even have a go at acting out the story with some of your toys that you may have at home.

Cooking Spend some time in the kitchen this week and explore how to cook with a turnip. You may want to create a soup or use turnip as an alternative to mash potato. Click on the turnips below to find out how to make it!

The third story we will be exploring this week is ‘The Three Little Pigs’.

Enjoy listening to the story and then take some time to complete your science experiment for this week. Follow the steps below to see if you can find an object to ‘huff and puff’.

Art

Using a variety of different loose parts and materials you have at home, can you create your own version of the gingerbread man? You may want to use a selection of recycled materials and combine them together to create a gingerbread man of any shape and size! We can’t wait to see your creations. See below for some inspiration.

Music

This week, we are going to be using our listening ears to help us to bake and make something delicious. Follow the steps in the video below and see if you can learn a variety of traditional songs and nursery rhymes.

Click here for some ideas to make your own Mother’s Day cards. Mother’s Day can be a day to celebrate anybody who looks after you!
