This half term we are going to be finding out about different places in the UK. Let’s listen to the UK song again to remind ourselves of the different countries and capital cities.

Monday- Geography

This week we are going to be learning about London! This is the capital city of England and it is where the Queen lives. This afternoon we will be using GoogleEarth to find key landmarks around London. Your task is to find all of the landmarks listed below and write one fact about each landmark. An information box will pop up about each landmark on GoogleEarth so you can find your fact there. Alternatively, you could research the different landmarks on Google and find out some information.

Buckingham Palace

Tower of London

Tower Bridge

Big Ben

London Eye

Westminster Abbey

Hyde Park

Pudding Lane- Last year you learnt all about The Great Fire of London. We know that the fire started in a bakery on Pudding Lane. Can you find Pudding Lane on GoogleEarth?

Tuesday- Lesson one: Hillstone Lifeskills

This half term our Hillstone Lifeskills lessons will be focused around ‘Healthy Me’. We are going to focus on healthy eating for the next two weeks. Listen to Miss Langford reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ below and she will explain your task for today.

I loved that story all about the very hungry, greedy caterpillar! You have a choice of tasks for this afternoon or, if you have some extra time, you may like to complete both tasks.

Task one

Look at the picture below showing the enormous dinner that the caterpillar ate on Saturday. Can you decide which of the foods are healthy and unhealthy? Remember, foods that have lots of sugar and fat are normally unhealthy and should only be eaten as a treat.  Can you either make a list of the healthy and unhealthy foods that he ate or you could draw pictures instead.

Task two

Have a look through your cupboards at home and sort the foods that you find into a healthy and an unhealthy pile. You could use the traffic light symbols to help you like Miss Langford did in her video. Remember, that it is fine to have unhealthy foods in your cupboards and fridge. Everyone is allowed to have an unhealthy treat sometimes.

Tuesday- Lesson Two: PE

Below are lots of different ideas for your PE lesson. Alternatively you could visit Coach’s PE page for more ideas or complete a workout with Joe Wicks.

Games

Colour Combinaton- This game will require some objects of different colours. You could use toys, coloured socks or even coloured pencils!

Kitchen Curling- for this game you will need some rolled up pairs of socks and a target. Who can get their socks closest to the target?

Yoga

Today, we have a food themed yoga session to fit in with our Hillstone Lifeskills lesson! Can you spot healthy and unhealthy foods as you exercise?

Dance

Follow this link to complete a BBC Let’s Move podcast dance. You will be learning some simple steps from traditional Greek dances today. Alternatively, you could choose a different ‘Let’s Move’ podcast to complete. Your grown up will need to subscribe to this website but it is easy and free to do.

Daily Mile

Try to get out of your home and get some fresh air! You could walk, cycle, scoot or run with your grown up around your local area. See if you can keep moving for at least 15 minutes.

Wednesday- Art

For our art lesson this week we are going to be re-creating some of the landmarks in London that we learnt about on Monday. You have a choice of two tasks depending on the resources that you have at home. If you have some extra time and want to do both activities then that would be fabulous!

Task one

For this task you will be creating a 3D landmark of your choice using any old junk or recycling that you have at home. There are some examples below of different landmarks that have been made using junk. Remember to decorate your model beautifully using felt tips, paint or pencil crayons! Alternatively, you could use Lego to create a 3D model.

Big Ben

Tower Bridge

Task Two

If you do not have any spare junk or boxes around your house you could create a sketch of one of the landmarks. Below are three videos that will give a step by step guide for how to draw either: The London Eye, Big Ben or Tower Bridge. Remember to pause the video as often as you need to complete your sketch.

We would love to see the gorgeous art work that you produce this afternoon so remember to send it to us for a Marvellous Me!

Thursday-Lesson one: Hillstone Lifeskills

It is so important that we take care of our mental health and take time to relax. Today, Miss Langford is going to read you a story called’ The Lemonade Hurricane’ which will give us a strategy to use to relax our bodies and minds.

I really enjoyed that story year two! Below are two meditation videos for you to try that are designed to to make you feel completely relaxed! Why not sit on a cushion on the floor like Emma did in the story? We hope that you feel lovely and relaxed after your meditation session!

Thursday: Lesson two- Drama with Lucy

Today’s drama session is based on a story called Rain Before Rainbows. Follow this link to take part in the session. We would love to see some photographs of your super acting! Why not send some to us on the cloud for a Marvellous Me?

Friday: Lesson one- RE

This half term, our RE lessons will focus on Buddhism. Today, we are going to look at the main ways that different religions celebrate the birth of a child. Watch the video below to find out how some religions will celebrate the birth of a child.

Can you either make a list or draw a picture to show how each faith celebrates the birth of a new baby? We have learnt about: Christianity, Sikhism and Buddhism. You could ask a grown up to help you research other ways that these faiths celebrate and include them in your work.

Friday: Lesson two- PE

Dance

Today, we have a dance class with Oti Mabuse! We will be learning a dance from one of my favourite films… Frozen! You will be able to learn lots of new dance moves to the song ‘Let it go’. We would love to see some photographs of your fabulous dancing!
