Welcome to our topic page this week! We have got so many exciting activities for you to enjoy! We are going to start the week with some drama. You are going to be learning the correct royal etiquette so why not dress up in your fanciest clothes ready to re-enact a royal meeting. You are going to learn a new art technique called printing and you will also be designing a new crown for the Queen. In Hillstone Lifeskills, we are going to be learning about different types of family and we will also be thinking about how to deal with worries. Alongside this, you also have two PE lessons, Drama with Bhav and music. Please upload any of your topic work to the ‘Cloud’ as we really do love to see it!

Monday- Drama and designing a poster

In literacy this week, you are going to be reading one of my favourite stories. It’s about an animal who behaves in a very naughty way in front of the Queen! Imagine if you ever met Queen and behaved in the wrong way without even knowing! Today, we are going to be learning the correct way to behave in front of the Queen. This is called learning the correct etiquette. For the first part of the lesson, we are going to be completing some drama. Here is a link to PDF presentation explaining the rules with a little help from ‘Alice in Winderland’. Once you have learnt the rules, you could act them out with a partner. One person could be the Queen and the other person could be the child meeting her for the first time. You could even get dressed up in your fanciest clothes! Get ready to be fabulous actresses and actors! You could send us some pictures of your acting or post a video on Twitter for us.

Now that we are clear about the correct way to behave in front of the Queen, we are going to create a poster. On your poster, you need to include at least three of the rules that we have learnt. You could write the rules down, draw pictures or both. It would be great if you could make your poster bright and vibrant so that it is eye-catching. You might decide to create a border around the edge of your page like the examples below. Remember to use a sharp pencil for your writing and make it as neat as possible.

Tuesday: Lesson One-Hillstone Lifeskills

Our Hillstone Lifeskills lesson today will focus on different types of families. Watch the video below to listen to the story.

I loved hearing about all of the different types of family in that story. Now, I would like to find out about all of your families. You could simply draw a picture of the members of your family and label it. You could create a house with your family looking out of the windows like in the example below. Alternatively, you could create stick puppets of the different members of your family. There is also an example of this below.

Tuesday: Lesson Two- PE

Games

The game below is called ‘Rolling Penalties’. You will need a partner to play this game with you. See how many goals you can get!

The game below is called ‘Space Monsters’. This will help to develop your control over the ball when dribbling.

In addition to this, there are lots more ideas on Coach’s PE page. Click here to visit.

Dance

Below is a super work out with Oti Mabuse where you will learn a dance routine to the ‘Greatest Showman’. We hope that you feel energised afterwards!

Wednesday: Lesson One- Art

Today, we are going to be practising a new art technique called ‘Printing’. For this activity you will need some paint and some household objects that you are able to dip into the paint. This could be things like: bottle lids, pencils, Lego blocks, plastic bricks, buttons, dice etc. Watch the video below of Miss Langford to find out what you will need to do for this activity. If you do not have any paint at home, Miss Langford will tell you about a different activity that you can do in the video below.

Don’t forget to send us some pictures of the gorgeous printing that you do today!

Wednesday: Lesson Two- Drama with Bhav

Our poem this week is called ‘The Boneyard Rap’ and here is the link to the drama lesson with Bhav! You could send us some pictures of your fabulous acting to the cloud!

Thursday: Lesson One: Hillstone Lifeskills

Everyone worries sometimes but it is important that we know how to deal with worries. Listen to the story below all about a little boy who has a monster. The monster in the story is really his worry.

I’m so glad that the little boy told his Gran about his worry! If you were worried about something, who would you tell? You could make a list of the people you could tell or draw a picture. If there is something that you are worrying about, perhaps you could draw a picture of it and share it with a grown up.

Thursday: Lesson Two- Art

Today, you are going to be getting creative and designing a new crown for the Queen. Before we begin, let’s have a look at some of the crowns that the Queen already owns.

Wow! Those crowns are really gorgeous. You have a choice of different ways that you may decide to decorate your crown depending on the resources that you have at home.

Creating your crown shape

The video below gives you a simple step-by-step guide for how to draw a crown. You could draw this crown onto paper, card or cardboard. You may have an empty recycling box that you could use.

Decorating your crown

Collage

For this technique, you will need different types of materials. These could be: different coloured pieces of paper or card, wrapping paper, old pieces of fabric, tissue, tin foil etc. To create a lovely collage you will need to either cut or tear your materials into small pieces. You will then need to carefully stick these pieces onto your crown making sure that you leave no gaps.

Printing

Before printing a pattern onto your crown, you will first need to colour in your crown. This will ensure that your crown is bright and colourful with no gaps. Once you have coloured in your crown, you will be ready to print. We learnt how to print in yesterday’s activity. Watch the video from yesterday’s lesson if you did not have time to complete the activity. What objects will you choose to print with today? Will you create a repeating pattern on your crown?

Patterns

If you do not have any paint at home or any materials to make a collage, this activity just requires some coloured pencils. Yesterday, Miss Langford showed you how to create a pattern using some household objects by drawing around the edge and using them like a stencil. You could create some gorgeous patterns on your crown using this technique today. You could then decorate your crown using coloured pencils or felt tips.

3D crown

You may decide that you want to make a 3D crown and you can see some examples of this below. You could still choose one of the decorating techniques from above and then fix your crown together at the end. You may need some help from a grown up with this.

If you have time, you may decide to make a crown using two of the different techniques from above. As always, we would love to see what you create so please send us some photographs of your art work!

Friday: Lesson One- PE

Games

The game below is called ‘Target Treasure’ and it will support you with practising accurate throwing.

Below is a video showing you how to complete a game called ‘Treasure Chest’. You can play this game by yourself or take it in turns with a partner.

Yoga

Why not join Jamie for a ‘Cosmic Kids’ yoga adventure. The video below is a re-enactment of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ using yoga poses. There are so many cosmic kids adventures on Youtube if you do not want to re-enact this story.

Friday: Lesson Two-Music

Visit Mr Farr’s music page by following this link where you will be able to access Charanga. If you have lost your username and password, just leave a comment, and we will be able to send you your details.

Musical Instrument

You could make a simple shaker this week to add to your musical instrument collection!

You will need:

  • A cardboard tube.
  • Felt tips and decorations
  • Either a spoonful of rice, pasta or small stones.
  • Tape
  • Card

Instructions:

  • Decorate your cardboard tube using the felt tips and decorations. You can create any design that you wish!
  • Place a spoonful of rice, pasta or small stones inside your tube.
  • Place a cut out circle of card onto each end of your paper tube.
  • You can secure your card in place using tape or an elastic band.
  • Enjoy playing your instrument while joining in with an activity from Charanga!

Join in with one our favourite songs! You could use your shaker to shake along to the beat!
