Good morning Year 4! Miss Furlong and Miss Aluriya are both very happy to see you on virtual school. Please make sure you are keeping up with your school work by completing the lessons and activities that we have set for you today. We will be keeping a register so make sure you leave a comment to let us know that you’re here. We would love to see the work that you complete too. There are 3 ways you can send us work:
1) Tweet it @hillstoneps
2) Email it to year4@hillstone.org.uk
3) Submit it here
Please make sure your name is on any photos that you send us.
Most importantly, make sure to stay safe! Have a great day!

Hillstone Star!

Our Hillstone Star this week is Maddison Caldicott! We have chosen Maddison for her perseverance and determination to do well in Maths recently.

9:00-9:10

Let’s start the day off with some early morning work! So, put your thinking hats on Year 4. Below is a picture of several things combined together – a couple of Maths, Geography, English questions, etc. These questions might be topics we may have not covered in lessons yet but that’s okay! Just give it a good go – you might learn something new! Again, if you need any support, please comment below. Make sure you have left a comment to let us know you’re here too!

9:10-10:00

After the half term holidays, we will be practising telling the time in maths. I have put a list of games here that you might like to play over the next week in order to get ready for telling the time!
Game 1 – scroll down, click play game, start with level 1 and work your way up the levels.
Game 2 – match the times with the clocks
Game 3 – clock splat!
Can you have a look at the time on a clock when you go to bed? What about when you’re eating lunch? What time does the clock say when you wake up? Is the time different if you look at an analogue clock and a digital clock?

Did you know: today is Chinese New Year! 2021 is the year of the ox. Can you find out what that means?
There are lots of myths in Chinese culture. Watch the video below to hear a story about how Chinese New Year started.

Did you notice the puppets the video used to tell the story? We want you to have a go at telling the story from the video using your own puppets. Watch the videos below for some ideas on how you can make your own shadow puppets. All you need is some cardboard/paper, sticks and some tape, as well as a torch or lamp to make your shadows. Have fun!

Video 1 here gives some tips for making a puppet show stage!

Video 2 below gives some more ideas for making your puppets.

You may want to save this activity for a fun half term project, too!

It’s the half term holidays!! Everyone at school is so proud of how hard you’ve been working while being at home. We all hope that it won’t be too much longer before we’re back in the classroom.
Both parents and children deserve a restful break. Make sure you take time to sleep, exercise and eat lots of pancakes! We’d love to receive photos of anything interesting that you get up to over half term. It would be nice to have a gallery on our virtual school page like we did after the snow day. (Click here and scroll down if you missed that!)

Enjoy your week off as best as you can and we will see you back here on Monday 22nd February.
