Year 4 Friday 13th November

Hi year 4! It is such a shame that we can’t all be in school celebrating Children In Need day today. Stay home and stay safe for the next two weeks and we will all be back at school before you know it!
Thank you for coming to virtual school today. On this page you will find your maths and writing tasks for the day. Make sure you check out the topic page as well for lots of different activities relating to India, as well as activities in art, music, PE and more.
Remember, leave a comment at the bottom of this page to let us know that you stopped by! Also, it would be wonderful to see any work that you do at home. Simply take a picture of it and get an adult to tweet it including @hillstoneps.
Finally, make sure you make time to do something fun today. Remember though, you are isolating so you shouldn’t be leaving your house. Have a nice day!

Click HERE to visit the topic page where you can find fun activities that relate to our current topic, India. You can also find activities in art, music, and more!

Happy birthday to Saskai Harborne and happy birthday to Lexi Pritchard (for tomorrow)! I hope you both enjoy your day. Let us know how you are celebrating in the comments!

It’s Children in Need day. Are you wearing your spots?! If you are, send us a photo of yourself to @hillstoneps on twitter, it would be great to see! All week we have been talking about joining in with Joe Wicks for the last 20 minutes of his amazing challenge to work out for 24 hours straight! (Parents, you can find out more about this here). Joe has already raised over £1,000,000 (1 million pounds!) for Children in Need! I will still be joining in with this from home, will you? To take part live, watch the video below from 9am. If you’ve missed this, don’t worry you will still be able to take part.

This week in maths we have been practising division.
Today we are going to practise dividing by 9.
To answer these questions, you are going to need to draw 9 groups and share out your total equally.
If you know your 9x tables, you might be able to work out the answers much quicker!
Have a go at the questions on the sheet below. Remember, if you need any help, just leave a comment at the bottom of the page. Once you’ve answered the questions, click on the answers to see if you got them right.

Once you’ve answered these questions, you can put your skills in to practise by playing Hit the Button. Click on ‘Division Facts’ and dividing by 9. Let us know in the comments how many you get right!

CHALLENGE: If you are feeling VERY confident with division, try playing this game.

Today we were going to write the last paragraph of our non-chronological report about India. I want you to write a paragraph about jobs that people in India might have. Have a look below for some popular jobs in India. You might also want to have a look at this website for some more information. Once you’ve finished writing your paragraph, why not draw a picture and colour it in too? Don’t forget to send us a picture of your work to @hillstoneps on twitter.

Popular jobs in India

  • doctor/dentist/teacher/scientist/banker, etc
  • manual labour (difficult, tiring work that you do with your hands instead of using machines)
  • weaving and dyeing cloth
  • carving stone and sculptures
  • About 50% of jobs in India are in farming

Have you entered the writing competition yet?! Look out for the full details on the main year 4 virtual classroom.

Make sure that while you are at home, you carry on reading your book for at least 20 minutes every day. When you are finished, you can still take your quiz on Accelerated Reader between 8:45 and 3:30 each weekday. You can login here. Any problems, (for example, if you can’t remember your login details) just leave us a comment at the bottom of the page.

4F: don’t think that being at home will stop me checking the TT Rock Stars leaderboard! I’ll be keeping a note of who’s won a prize over the next 2 weeks and they’ll be able to claim it as soon as we are back in school. This week’s leader board looks like this:

Very well done to Saskai who is getting VERY hard to beat! Well done also to Riley, Gabe, Lexie, Shayon, Logan, Lola, Atalia, Summer and Keanu who are in our top 10 this week and to everyone else who has been on in the last 7 days. Keep working hard! I’ll be posting the leaderboard again next Friday so make sure you get on to TT Rockstars and play over the next week to be in with a chance of winning a prize!

4A: Well done to all of these people who have been on TTRock Stars this week: Mudasir, Brogan, Sagal, Ethan, Lexi, Francesca, Riley, Eoghan and Tyler. Next week I will post a leader board for your class; I wonder who will be at the top…

If you need a reminder of your login and password, leave us a comment below.

Don’t forget to visit the year 4 topic page too, which contains activities for topic, art, music, Hillstone life skills and more!

    1. Why not start off with your writing? Write a paragraph about the jobs people have in India. You can start off with: There are lots of different jobs in India. You could be a…

    1. You need to finish off a story that starts “The day the singing stopped, the world fell silent and the only voice that could be heard was Noah’s.” You can write a story or you can just draw pictures or a mixture of both! The best one will win a prize.

    1. Yes, I’ve got you here now. It doesn’t matter too much what time you come on, as long as you log in every week day that we can’t be at school. Although, it’s good to do it first thing in the morning I think and then you can enjoy the rest of your day.
