Good morning Year 4! Miss Furlong and Miss Aluriya are both very happy to see you on virtual school. Please make sure you are keeping up with your school work by completing the lessons and activities that we have set for you today. We will be keeping a register so make sure you leave a comment to let us know that you’re here. We would love to see the work that you complete too. There are 3 ways you can send us work:

Please make sure your name is on any photos that you send us.
Most importantly, make sure to stay safe! Have a great day!

9:00-9:10

Let’s start the day off with some early morning work! So, put your thinking hats on Year 4. Below is a picture of several things combined together – a couple of Maths, Geography, English questions, etc. These questions might be topics we may have not covered in lessons yet but that’s okay! Just give it a good go – you might learn something new! Again, if you need any support, please comment below. Make sure you have left a comment to let us know you’re here too!

9:10-10:00

Today we are going to be comparing fractions.

Workbook

Click below for your workbook page for part one.

Challenge

We found out that having a smaller denominator makes the fraction bigger (1/2 is bigger than 1/4). Can you write a sentence explaining why this is? Either write it in your book or write it here in the comments section.

Answers

Once you’ve finished, check your answers below. If there are any you got wrong, leave us a comment or send us an email at year4@hillstone.org.uk and we’ll be able to help you.

13:40-15:00

We have lots of different activities today. Please don’t feel like you have to do all of it if you’re short on time. Some of the activities might be better saved for the weekend. Some of the activities may be done independently, where as some may need more adult involvement. Make them work for you!

Task 1 – drama

We have lots of fun activities for this afternoon! Last week we learned about electricity. Today we are going to use something called ‘Now Press Play’ to put our learning in to practice! It is an immersive drama session where you can listen to the story and act bits out along with it. In the story we’re going to listen to, there has been a power cut and we need to get the town’s electricity back working. Use the instructions below to give it a go.

  1. Click on the link here.
  2. Type in the password nowpressplay
  3. Read the instructions
  4. Click on years 3-6, science and electricity.
  5. Press play!

Task 2 – sound and pitch

Today we are also going to learn about pitch. Start off by looking at the information on Bitesize here. Once you’ve watched the video and read the information, you should be able to answer:
a) What is pitch?
b) What sound has a low pitch?
c) What sound has a high pitch?

Task 3

Now that you understand what pitch is, we can have some fun! Watch these two videos below. The people in them have worked out how to play Disney songs using only plastic bottle which each have slightly different pitches. It must have taken them a long time to put it together but it sounds so good!

And if you’re interested to see the science behind this and how they went about putting it together, have a look at this ‘behind the scenes’ video:

Optional Task

You can make a musical instrument out of things that you’ve got around the house. There are a few ideas at this link here. Can you try making your own? This could be a project you try today or maybe have a go at this weekend.

    1. Has she completed her maths work from Friday 15th? If not, she has to do that first. I wasn’t sure if she had completed it or not has she hadn’t commented

  2. I think that the penguin is the odd one out because a duck fly’s and a parrot fly’s but not a penguin, or it could be the duck because its a toy.
