Year 4 SEN maths

Band 8 ADDITION OBJECTIVES

Add numbers mentally using bridging through ten.

Lesson 1: watch video, uses a tens frame. 6 questions at the end of the video to answer. Answer practically, using tens frame. Write answers on whiteboard.

Lesson 2: watch video, uses a tens frame and part-part whole. 10 questions to answer at end. Answer in yellow books.

Add one and 2-digit numbers to 20

A VERY simple video showing addition by counting on. Might not need to use video, children just answer questions.
Could start off with counting practically using cubes, then move to counting in head or have a whole lesson practical, then another mental.

(Task is the same as next lesson but there are lots of questions, split between lessons).

Recall and use addition facts for all number facts to 20 fluently.

Lesson 1 – Watch video, uses a number line to 20, questions to print and answer in books.

Lesson 2 – missing addition calculations to 20. Watch video using a number line and answer worksheet questions.

Show that addition can be done in any order (commutative)

Lesson 1 – Watch video, video investigates the question ‘can addition be done in any order?’, answer and explain their answer in books if possible and then complete Twinkl sheet.

Understand the inverse relationship between addition and subtraction

Watch video, write down fact families. May need first question modelled.
