Year 5 Friday 12th March

Good morning Year 5! Welcome to all 5U and 5K pupils. Thank you for coming on to virtual school today. We would like you to log into virtual school every day to access the learning. It is crucial that we maintain a routine that is as close as possible to a normal school day during the next two weeks. New learning will be available each weekday. Don’t hesitate to ask if you need any support or just want to check-in. Remember to tweet your work @hillstoneps. Make sure you leave a comment every day so we know you’re here (each day’s comments section will be used to take a register). Most importantly, make sure to stay safe! Have a great day!

Have you commented to say you are here?

Fantastic news! You can now send your work to us for feedback by uploading it here. Please make sure that you have your name on each piece of work that you submit. Additionally, if you have any questions that you’d prefer to ask your teacher privately, send them to year5@hillstone.org.uk

HILLSTONE STAR

How to Make a Simple 3D Paper Star - The Paperbox

This week’s Hillstone Star award goes to Emmy, who has had a nasty earache but still managed to produce some fantastic work. I was particularly impressed by Emmy’s maths focused on decimals. Emmy’s work was beautifully presented and demonstrated a clear understanding of the concepts being taught. Check it out below.

Congratulations Emmy! I hope you feel better soon πŸ™‚

9:00-9:10

Correct (if you’re writing about more than one planet)

Planets’ characteristics

Planets’ qualities

Incorrect (because your focus has now shifted to one planet, possession is now singular, so the apostrophe should come before the s)

Jupiters’ atmosphere

Neptunes’ surface

Mercurys’ temperature

In today’s writing lesson, we’ll be completing our planet fact files for Ross. Watch the video below to find out more.

Take a look at the video below… Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy

  • What you’ll need…
Two drum sticks, or if you don’t have any… pencils, wooden spooons… anything stick-like you can tap with.
  • Follow along
Follow the rhythms onscreen, tapping when they turn red. If you need a reminder about how to read these rhythms, check out our Issue 6 video about rhythm reading.
  • Create your own patterns
Choose a song you like, and see what pattens you can make up with your drum sticks using tati ti and shhh rhythms. See you if you can teach these patterns to someone else in your house too.

Let’s put the Rooster in the Stew

  1. Jasmine has done lots of research about Mars but I will get her to do her writing tomorrow and upload it on Monday. Hope this is OK. Have a good weekend.

  2. I think Laika became a stray dog because his father and mother got killed and left him alone to seek for help. the illustrator showed Laika all alone in a blank space to show Laika is all alone and has no family. Laika wanted a family because she was all alone and feeling starving and upset. I think they made sure Laika did not get scared of the dark and different planets. I think they made sure she was well, safe, healthy, strong and able to survive if something went wrong.

  3. Hi Mr K I loved music. I saw the Nutcracker by royal ballet remotely during lockdown. I love the sugar plum fairy and I liked playing it. I used pencils and some cups as drums.
