Year 5 Friday 20th November

Watch today’s welcome video here!

Good morning Year 5! Welcome to all 5U and 5K pupils. Thank you for coming on to virtual school today. We would like you to log in into virtual school every day to access the learning. It is crucial that we maintain a routine that is as close as possible to a normal school day during the next two weeks. New learning will be available each weekday and we ask that you leave us a comment (questions or messages) you have for your teacher. These will be answered daily so don’t hesitate to comment should you need any support or just want to check-in. Any work that you do, remember to tweet it @hillstoneps. Make sure you leave a comment every day so we know you’re here (each day’s comments section will be used to take a register). Most importantly, make sure to stay safe! Have a great day!

Fantastic news! You can now send your work to us for feedback by uploading it here. Additionally, if you have any questions that you’d prefer to ask your teach privately, send them to year5@hillstone.org.uk

9:00-9:10

Let’s the start the day off with some early morning work! So, put your thinking hats on Year 5. Below is a play script from the Jungle Book, read it (including the stage directions) and answer the questions. Just give it a good go! – Make sure you have left a comment to let us know you’re here too!

9:10-10:00

Today we are going to write up our recount of an emotional event that we planned yesterday. Below I am going to write out two versions one that I’ll call the boring version which just gives the facts (telling you what happened) and the other version where I’ll attempt to use a technique call ‘show not tell’ where I try to show you how I felt rather than just telling you.

Now read the second version and see if you can spot where I’ve tried to use the Show not Tell technique.

Now it’s time to write your own version. Good luck!!

10:10-11:00

I’ll re-read chp 1 of ‘Under the Skin’.

Below are the pages so you can refer to them yourself when answering the questions.

  1. Hello Mr Uddin and Mr Campbell
I have done the warm up task and answered all the questions, the maths and found out an easy way to work out x 10 and x 100. I have also completed the food diary for the day, I chose yesterday’s food and will ask my dad to put it on Twitter later. I have picked 10 foods and wrote the amount of energy per 100g of food. I will do the rest of the tasks this afternoon after my lunch

  2. On the questions for under the skin , chapter one the last question says’ on page 11 it says:” I hold my breath, I know what’s going to happen next”? What does it mean?

    1. Sorry I uploaded the wrong set of questions by accident. But that one is meant to ask – ‘what do you think will happen next’?
That’s provided that you haven’t read chapter 2 yet.

    1. Hi Josh. I took a look at your writing. Great effort there! At the end, could you edit in a description of your facial expression and body language to show how amazed you were?

      1. Been a crazy morning here in and out of virtual school with my brother and sister mom has uploaded some of my work so far we are just going to have snack and watch news round together now
