Year 5 Tuesday 1st December

REMEMBER – We’re back in school tomorrow!

Good morning Year 5! Welcome to all 5U and 5K pupils. Thank you for coming on to virtual school today. We would like you to log into virtual school every day to access the learning. It is crucial that we maintain a routine that is as close as possible to a normal school day during the next two weeks. New learning will be available each weekday. Don’t hesitate to ask if you need any support or just want to check-in. Remember to tweet your work @hillstoneps. Make sure you leave a comment every day so we know you’re here (each day’s comments section will be used to take a register). Most importantly, make sure to stay safe! Have a great day!

Fantastic news! You can now send your work to us for feedback by uploading it here. Additionally, if you have any questions that you’d prefer to ask your teacher privately, send them to year5@hillstone.org.uk

Let’s the start the day off with some early morning work! So, put your thinking hats on Year 5. Give it a go! – Make sure you have left a comment to let us know you’re here too!

Complete these spelling activities below.

Yesterday, we started to think about writing our Christmas letters to the elderly. Our plan is to send letters/emails to Newsround so we can inspire other children to follow our example.

We decided a formal tone would suit our persuasive letter to Newsround as it would encourage them to take our idea seriously.

For your warm-up today, can you convert my informal sentences into something that could be used in our letter? If you’re struggling to get started, have a look at my ideas.

Informal sentences

Formal alternatives

Today, we’re going to plan our letters. Take a look at my suggested structure.

Plan out what you are going to include in each paragraph. You may also wish to find statistics that back up your points. I’d also recommend finding words that will help to give your letter a formal tone. Make a note of these next to the section you are going to use them in.

Da Vinci

In Da Vinci’s notebooks, we can see him focusing his attention on specific parts of the body, often in great detail. Through this work, Da Vinci blurs the line between art and science.

Today, we will be drawing the window to the soul, the eyes!

Remember to stop the video after each step and work on it until it’s the best it can be!
