Don’t hesitate to ask if you need any support or just want to check-in. Remember to tweet your work @hillstoneps. Make sure you leave a comment every day so we know you’re here (each day’s comments section will be used to take a register). Most importantly, make sure to stay safe! Have a great day!

Fantastic news! You can now send your work to us for feedback by uploading it here. Additionally, if you have any questions that you’d prefer to ask your teacher privately, send them to year5@hillstone.org.uk

For writing this week, we will look at Russia and create an information sheet about one of the most important landmarks:- St Basil’s.

The writing that you will complete is part of a competition called, “Around the World”. It is open to lots of schools across the world, and at Hillstone Primary, Russia has been chosen as our country of interest.

To help get you started on your research, try answering the following questions about St Basil’s.

Use your computer or mobile device to help you find out answers to these questions. Keep the notes that you make safe as we will be using them again tomorrow.

Good luck!! Remember to share a photo of your work using twitter or the Year 5 upload link at the top of the page.

10:10-11:00

In line with our theme of Russia, it would be nice to look at some stories which have a Russian origin. Today’s reading will look at the story of “Peter and the Wolf”.

Once you have read the story, I would like you to answer the following questions based on what you can infer from the story. Remember, inference is an important skill that look at what you know and how you know it.

Topic

(Russia) or Russian Federation

federation (also known as a federal state) is a political entity with a union of partly self-ruling areas or states, under a central federal government.

Let’s get started!!

It’s time to do your own research about Russia. In your research can you come up with the answer to these questions:-

  • What continents is Russia in?
  • How large is Russia?
  • How many people live in Russia?
  • Who is the Russian leader?
  • How many republics (mini states) are there in the Russian Federation?
  • List all of Russia’s republics.
  • What is the capital of Russia?
  • What is the Russian currency (money)?
  • What animal is used to represent Russia?
  • Find and draw the Russian flag.
  • Which of these animals live in Russia (Lion, Leopard, Tiger, Hyena) ?
  • Draw your own outline map of Russia (adding the capital)

You can write your answers in a list, do a mind map, mind web or however you feel comfortable.
