Good morning Year 6. It’s Friday!
Welcome to our virtual page. We would like you to log in every day to access your learning. As we are all isolating, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day. New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are all available in the comments section should you require any support.
We hope you enjoy today’s lessons. Please stay safe.
From Miss Kinsman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Gillett.
Today’s timetable.

9:00-9:15
Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading some of the extracts from The Happy News (images below) before writing begins.

An important article, a sweet article and an interesting article for you from today’s Happy News extracts.

Spelling
There are three parts to your spelling lesson today:
- A short spelling test, covering the spelling rules that have already been taught in school this term.
- A spelling lesson, covering a new spelling rule.
- Practising the new spelling rule and completing a test on Spelling Frame.
Parts 1 and 2 are included in the video below. Part 3 is underneath the video.

If you require a bit more practise of spelling words that end with the suffix -tion, click here to play some of the games, then take the test.
If you require a bit more practise of spelling words that end with the suffix -sion, click here to play some of the games, then take the test.
If you feel ready to practise spelling a variety of words that end in -tion, -sion or -cian, then click here for part 1 and here for part 2. Make sure you play some of the games, then take the test for each one.
Miss Hodgkinson’s group: There are several sheets that have the sounds you are working on at school. Use these to practise reading and writing them.

Hillstone Life Skills
Starter: A calculator is better than your brain.
Do you agree or disagree? Try to think of ideas both for and against this statement, using evidence where possible. Share your thoughts with us in the comments below, or upload it to the shared area using the button under this section.
Challenge: Investigate this statement, exploring and testing to see which one is better.

Using the image above, answer the questions below.
Where has this person gone wrong? How do you think this happened?
How can mistakes help you as a learner? How can they help us as teachers?
Having a growth mindset and making mistakes are important in all areas of the curriculum, and your life, but we are going to look a little bit more specifically at these areas in relation to maths today.
Dr Jo Boaler is a British education author and a Professor of Mathematics Education at the Stanford Graduate School of Education in California. She is involved in promoting mathematics education reform and helping develop mathematical mindsets. Have a look at a few of the videos below and what these tell us about how our brain grows and why making mistakes is important.
Now, think about the following questions:
What did you learn from the video clips?
Do you think you are born to be good at maths, or anything else? Why/why not?
Do any of your family believe that they were better at one subject at school? Why might this have been?
Do any of your family say there was a subject they found hard at school? Why might this have been?
How do you feel about making mistakes?
Does your attitude to mistakes depend on the subject?

If this was the first time I was learning about common multiples, would this mistake be part of the learning process or a careless error?
Think about yourself and the type of learner that you are.
Which mistakes do you make?
Which type of mistake helps us develop as a learner?
What can we do to avoid making careless mistakes?
Mistakes are an important and essential part of the learning process.

TASK: Create your own acrostic poem or quote about the importance of mistakes/how failing is part of learning.
12:30-13:30

Enjoy your lunch and we will see you back here at 13.30.
13:30-13:50
