Year 6 Monday 23rd November

Good morning Year 6 and happy Monday.

Welcome to our virtual page. We would like you to log in every day to access your learning.  As we are all isolating, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day.  New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are all available in the comments section should you require any support.

We hope you enjoy today’s lessons.  Please stay safe.

From Miss Kinsman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Gillett.

Today’s timetable.

9:00-9:15

Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading some of the extracts from The Happy News (PDF below) before writing begins.

This issue was all about strength and I found this article really interesting, inspiring and comforting. I hope you do too.

9:15-10:15

Writing

Welcome to today’s writing lesson….or should I say lessons! Don’t worry: you only need to do one of them. Start watching the first video below and it will all become clear! And as you can see, they are both about Macbeth, which I know we have all been enjoying studying.

By the way, in the shared writing, I’ve realised that I say the word ‘ not’, but fail to write it down so keep an eye out for that – oops!

If you normally work with a teaching assistant at the start of writing, click on the document below to help you with today’s writing.

10:15-10:30

Enjoy a quick break.

10:30-11:30

Maths

Warm up: SUPER MATHS BOWLING. Click here.

Play one player, or two if you have someone to play with, and then press 5 short game, you can always play it again later. Now click Year 5 and it will highlight the Year 5 and 6 objectives; however, if you are struggling with a specific times table, you may practise that instead. Then press play. Good luck.

Watch the lesson above, pausing at the appropriate times to complete any questions.

Now click here for your question sheet. Remember you can re-watch parts of the video to help you answer the questions.

Miss Hodgkinson’s group: warm-up click here and, for 10 minutes, practise the times tables you are currently working on. Click here for sheet 1 or sheet 2.

Join Mr King for your daily Barvember questions.

Click here for the question sheet.

11:30-11:45

Grab a piece of fruit and a drink and let’s watch Newsround together.

11:45-12:30

Reading

Welcome to the first virtual reading lesson of the week! Watch the video below to find out more information.

Pause the video each time you are asked to complete a task and let me know how you are getting on in the comments section below. At the end of the video, you will have a longer task to complete, which you can then send to me for some feedback.

For certain tasks, you may need to use the documents below the video.

*In one of the model answers, I have spelt the word ‘introduced’ incorrectly. I apologise for this.

Miss Hodgkinson’s group: Complete the comprehension below and then read one of the books you were provided with on Friday, or click on the link below to choose a different text (make sure you select the correct colour!).

Click here to choose a different book to read.

12:30-13:30

Enjoy your lunch and we will see you back here at 13.30.

13:30-13:50

Accelerated Reader

Read your Accelerated Reader book. Let us know how you get on with your quizzes.

13:50-15:20

Topic

In topic today, you will be learning that there are two different sources of evidence you can use to learn about the past. They both help us build a picture about a time period or a specific historical event.

You will then re-cap your understanding of fact and opinion by researching statements about William Shakespeare.

Work through the lesson, click here, and complete sheet 1 and famous quotes when asked. Click here for the Horrible Histories link , if it doesn’t work on the lesson link.

Have fun!

15:20-15:35

Find a cosy space at home, then sit back and relax whilst listening to Mrs Bridges reading a retelling of Othello.

    1. Keelan, don’t worry. It’s lovely to see you on here.
Make sure you go to the work for Miss Hodgkinson’s group. Your maths work is sheet 2.
      Enjoy you day.
      Miss Kinsman

    1. Thanks, Mason. We’ve received quite a few pieces of work, but they don’t come with your names on (unlike your comments), so I will need to look through to find yours. I’m sure it’s there, though. We are just checking the best way to give you all feedback on what you have written.

  1. Hello everyone,

It’s great to see so many of you working on your writing lesson. There are a couple of things I wanted to mention to help you:

    – The writing prompt is only for those of you who normally have a sheet like this in the lesson. Please do not use this otherwise.
    – Today we are planning the whole piece of writing as well as writing the opening paragraph.
    – When you submit work, it would be super useful if you could include your name on the piece of work itself.

    Thanks,
    Mrs Gillett

    1. Ibrahim, re-watch Mrs Gillett’s video as I think you may have missed part of the lesson.
You should have made notes (for planning) first and then written your opening.

    1. Good morning, Amin. I hope you enjoy today’s learning and look forward to seeing your work later. Remember to use comments to ask for help or advice along the way.

        1. Hi Jenson,

So for the red question, you know that both numbers have to be the same. You know that the numerator in the first fraction has to be 8 or less, because the other numerator is 1 and the answer is 9.

We know that the denominator for the second question can’t be 20 then, so it must be smaller. Look at the numbers 1 – 8, which ones are factors of 20? Once you have worked that out, try each one in both boxes to see which one works in both.

          I hope that helps.

    1. Good morning Katelyn and it’s lovely to hear you are having a good day; I am too.
