How do we know if something is alive or not? What do all living things have in common?
MRS GREN is going to help us answer this question! Watch the video below. (A year 2 class narrated the film!)

There is a brilliant series on Netflix called Our Planet which is going to help us with our topic learning this half term. Watch the trailer for the programme below. If you have Netflix, you may want to watch a bit more!

There are LOTS of different types of living things in the world so it is important to be able to group them. Here is an example of a grouping below:

Are there any other animals that you could add in to these categories?

Now it’s time to sort some animals on your own! Below there are some pictures of lots of different types of animals.

You need to sort them in to the table below:

The first box on the left is for birds who lay eggs. The top box on the right is for birds who do not lay eggs. The bottom box on the left is for animals that are not birds but do lay eggs. The bottom box on the right is for animals that are not birds and do not lay eggs. If you’re not sure about an animal, you may need to use the internet to do some research!

You could draw out the animals or just write their name in to the correct box.

  1. Who wants to meet Hickory and Rosie the rabbits live? It’s 12pm today live. I have provided the link for you underneath our writing lesson. I’m so excited to meet them! πŸ™‚

      1. When you’re on the Year 4 Virtual page, scroll down to Friday 12th February. It will be under the spring 2 – Week 1. Once you’re on the page, scroll right down to the end of the page. You’ll see the name of the video – Making shadow puppets.
