Year 5 Monday 18th January

Good morning Year 5! Welcome to all 5U and 5K pupils. Thank you for coming on to virtual school today. We would like you to log into virtual school every day to access the learning. It is crucial that we maintain a routine that is as close as possible to a normal school day during the next two weeks. New learning will be available each weekday. Don’t hesitate to ask if you need any support or just want to check-in. Remember to tweet your work @hillstoneps. Make sure you leave a comment every day so we know you’re here (each day’s comments section will be used to take a register). Most importantly, make sure to stay safe! Have a great day!

Have you commented to say you are here?

Fantastic news! You can now send your work to us for feedback by uploading it here. Please make sure that you have your name on each piece of work that you submit. Additionally, if you have any questions that you’d prefer to ask your teacher privately, send them to year5@hillstone.org.uk

A special mention goes to Jaide for trying so hard with her multiplication work.

Writing

Today we will explore our own creative writing ideas.

Your Task

Choose one of the stories from the list above. This will be the story which you will work on this week to write.

I would like you to think about the questions which have been written and answer them. I would like you to write a summary of what will happen in your story. This is a good opportunity for you to explore different ideas for your story. It is up to you how creative you want to be!

Good luck!! Remember to share a photo of your work using twitter or the Year 5 upload link at the top of the page.

    1. Hi,
Question 4) The length of the sentence mirrors Barney’s rambling thoughts.
Question 5) There are 2 answers, which can both be correct as long as you can back up your reasoning.
If you said excited, because the author makes the pit seem exciting by letting us see it through Barney’s eyes. Barney wants an adventure and thinks he sees “the steering wheel of a ship … The tail of an aeroplane” (paragraph 3).
If you said afraid, because The author wants the reader to realise how dangerous the pit is. He starts by telling us that the bottom of the pit is “Far below” (paragraph 3) to emphasise the danger and then tell us that it’s full of “wreckage” (paragraph 3) and nettles” (paragraph 3), both of which could hurt you.
Question 6) Barney wished he was at the bottom of the pit and then he fell. When he opened his eyes, he found that he was at the bottom of the pit.
