Year 6 Thursday 4th March

Good morning Year 6 and happy Thursday and happy World Book Day!

Welcome to our virtual page. As we are all living under the restrictions of a national lockdown, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day. New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are available in the comments section should you require any support.

We hope you enjoy today’s lessons.  Do send us in photos of your work using the buttons on this page, and remembering to include your name! And, please stay safe.

From Miss Kinsman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Gillett.

Today’s timetable.

9:00-9:15

Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading an extract from one of my favourite books, and taking some time to think about it.

Writing

Thank you for all the writing sent in yesterday – on the whole, you had revealed John’s (or Fred’s in one case!) character well. If you sent in your work, your grown-up will have received a Marvellous Me badge containing individual feedback for you.

Today, please could everyone watch the first video below and then the second one. You may wish to watch the second one twice. Then work on your chosen writing task. I cannot wait to see what you all produce!

10:15-10:30

Enjoy a quick break.

10:30-11:30

Maths

Warm up: 24 game; click here.

For yesterday’s answers click here.

Feedback from yesterday: I can see you found yesterday’s work a little tricky.  Just remember you to do the inverse first.  e.g. 4y – 10 = 30 should be 30 + 10 = 40 ÷ 4 = 10.  Also, I have written out the red question in detail for you so you can see how it is worked out.

Watch the lesson above, pausing at the appropriate times to complete any questions.

Now click here for your question sheet. Remember you can re-watch parts of the video to help you answer the questions.

Click here for the pink questions only if you are finding the work tricky.

Extension questions: If you finish the questions quickly here are some extra questions to have a go at with the answers here.

Miss Hodgkinson’s group: warm-up click here and, for 10 minutes, practise the 3 and 4 times tables.

Miss Hodgkinson’s group: You will ALL need to download the sheet, click here, first before watching the lesson below. All the questions will be in the lesson.

Miss Hodgkinson’s group: now watch the lesson below.

Reading: World Book Day

Feedback from yesterday: I really enjoyed reading the ‘tweets’ that were submitted yesterday – thank you! And, I also have to mention, that your paragraphs on the target audience for this book were spot on, and well explained. Well done.

Watch the videos below for today’s special World Book Day lesson.

Whilst watching, there will be some activities for you to have a go at and I would love to see them, so please submit them with your name clearly on.

The opening extract for Rooftoppers can be found below, if you would like to read it.

If you have enjoyed these videos and would like to see what else is on offer for World Book Day then you can find lots of other videos and activities here.

I’m not quite sure which question you are on but the sum of something is how much you have altogether, so add.

    1. Good morning Jack. I’m pleased to hear you are looking forward to it.
We all really enjoyed dressing up and using filters to read some of our favourite stories.
