Year 6 Tuesday 19th January 2021

Good morning Year 6 and happy Tuesday.

Welcome to our virtual page. As we are all living under the restrictions of a national lockdown, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day.  New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are available in the comments section should you require any support.

We hope you enjoy today’s lessons.  Please stay safe.

From Miss Kinsman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Gillett.

Today’s timetable.

9:00-9:15

Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading an extract from The Happy News (image below) which I think we could all do with right now, before writing begins.

Some things to think about this morning…

9:15-10:15

Writing

Thank you for all the sentences sent in yesterday; here’s some feedback for you:

After yesterday’s learning about colons, we’re moving onto semi-colons today. There are several places in the video where you definitely need to pause (all marked with a handy pause symbol!) before your final task. Do remember to take a photo of your final sentences and submit it to us – and with your name on too!

If you usually use a sheet for writing with prompt questions on (and work with a teaching assistant at the start of a lesson in school), below is today’s task. Also, you won’t need to watch all the video; instead, stop it when I start talking about semi-colons as your focus is different.

10:15-10:30

Enjoy a quick break.

10:30-11:30

Maths

Warm up: play Hit the Button division facts. Click here.

For yesterday’s answers click here.

Feedback from yesterday: overall great. Remember to make your decimal point clear. The only mistakes I saw were times table errors. Be careful. Also, I am still getting work without names on.

Watch the lesson above, pausing at the appropriate times to complete any questions.

Now click here for your question sheet. Remember you can re-watch parts of the video to help you answer the questions.

Click here for the pink questions only if you are finding the work tricky.

Miss Hodgkinson’s group: warm-up click here and, for 10 minutes, practise the times tables you are currently working on.

Miss Hodgkinson’s group: watch the lesson below.

Miss Hodgkinson’s group: your questions are here.

11:30-11:45

Grab a piece of fruit and a drink and let’s watch Newsround together.

11:45-12:30

Reading

Feedback from yesterday: I loved reading your predictions yesterday. There were some really insightful ideas that demonstrated a great understanding of characters and plot.

Watch the video below for today’s lesson.

Pause and re-watch the video any time you need to. Any resources you need for the lesson will be underneath the video. Please remember to place you name on any work you submit, and if you need any help at all, please ask in the comments section.

When you have finished, you can check your answers using the guidelines below.

PE

There are a few options for your PE sessions, each day.

  1. Follow along with Joe Wicks, on his YouTube channel here, where he will be back to doing live workouts every morning at 9am. You can catch up with these in the afternoon, or shift your day around so you start the day this way and follow along live.
  2. Check out the activities on Coach’s PE From Home page here and choose one (or more!) to complete.
  3. Go for some exercise outdoors, whether it’s a walk, a jog, a run or something else.
  4. Choose an activity from Youth Sports Trust. You can find a list of fun activities here.

If you are able to, please take photos or videos of whichever activity you choose and upload to Twitter @hillstoneps (include your name and year group) so we can see what you are getting up to!

15:20-15:35

Find a cosy space at home, then sit back and relax whilst listening to Mrs Bridges read some extracts from The Book of Hopes.

    1. Hi Connor, good morning and nice to see you. Hope you are keeping up with your reading. Also remember to upload your reading work for our group when you’ve completed it, enjoy today’s activities.

    1. Thanks, Cruz. I’ll take a look later (once all writing work has come in) and will send your mum a Marvellous Me message. There will also be audio feedback about it at the start of tomorrow’s writing lesson.

        1. Hi Tabitha,
Yes, I’ve just checked and there is an error. Apologies about that. The correct answer is 20/30 which simplifies to 2/3.
          Thanks for letting us know.

    1. I have watched that animation so many times, but only noticed that ending when Miss Kinsman told me! I had been so focused on picking out the information that we needed for our writing tasks that I was clearly oblivious to everything else!
