Good morning Year 6 and welcome to Wednesday’s lessons.
Welcome to our virtual page. We would like you to log in every day to access your learning. As we are all isolating, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day. New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are all available in the comments section should you require any support.
We hope you enjoy today’s lessons. Please stay safe.
From Miss Kinsman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Gillett.
Today’s timetable.

9:00-9:15
Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading some of the extracts from The Happy News (images below) before writing begins.

9:15-10:15

Writing
Welcome to Wednesday’s writing lesson. Firstly, here’s some quick feedback from yesterday’s learning:
In today’s lesson, we will continue with our Banquo’s ghost narratives. When you are watching the video below, pause it whenever you are asked to so you can carry out the task I’ve set. However, please feel free to pause and re-watch as needed. If you need any help along the way, please just contact me via the comments section below. I can’t wait to read what you have written so please do send in a photo of your work – including your name too, please!
If you normally have a colourful sheet with questions and prompts on for writing, here’s yours for today:
10:15-10:30

Enjoy a quick break.
10:30-11:30

Maths
Warm up: COUNTDOWN. Click here.
If you cannot remember how to play countdown, choose six cards then a target and try to make the target number. You do not need to use all the numbers. Play for 10 minutes.
For yesterday’s answers click here.
Feedback from yesterday: thank you for submitting your work. Please remember to put your name on it. As I said in my welcome message, when you get onto the questions just spend 30 minutes on them.
Watch the lesson above, pausing at the appropriate times to complete any questions.
Now click here for your question sheet. Remember you can re-watch parts of the video to help you answer the questions.
Click here for the pink questions.
Miss Hodgkinson’s group: warm-up click here and, for 10 minutes, practise rapid recall of addition and subtraction. Click here for sheet 1 or sheet 2.

Now complete your daily Barvember questions with Mr King.
Click here for the question sheet.
11:30-11:45

Grab a piece of fruit and a drink and let’s watch Newsround together.
11:45-12:30

Reading
I have loved looking at your reading work. You have thought about the themes and explained them so well. Keep working on those detailed explanations, referring back to the text.
Watch the video for today’s reading lesson. Remember you can pause and re-watch as much as you need to. If you have any questions, then just ask me in the comments section and I will do my best to help you.
Miss Hodgkinson’s group: Complete the comprehension below and then read one of the books you were provided with on Friday, or click on the link below to choose a different text (make sure you select the correct colour!).
Click here to choose a different book to read.
12:30-13:30

Enjoy your lunch and we will see you back here at 13.30.
13:30-13:50

Hillstone Life Skills
The first thing we could like you to consider is this:

Now, think about the following:
- What might a personal barrier to your own learning?
- Is the barrier related to a specific subject?
- What strategies have you tried to overcome it?
- Why do you think it’s a barrier?
- What other strategies could you try?
There are two types of barriers: external and internal.
Internal barriers are things that are happening within you. For example, not asking for help when you need it. External barriers are things that are happening around you, or in the environment you’re in, that you can’t necessarily control. For example, other children talking loudly.
We would like you to think about and choose a barrier to your learning. This should be something that you think can sometimes stop you for achieving what you’re fully capable of, or stop you from achieving full stop. Once you have chosen one, think about ways you may be able to overcome this, if you tried different strategies.
Now, using the model below to give you an idea of how to start, create a comic strip illustrating this. There is an image below of some apps that you may find useful for this activity.

14:35-15:20

15:20-15:35

Find a cosy space at home, then sit back and relax whilst listening to Miss Kinsman read the first half of a retelling of Twelfth Night.
Hi miss, I uploaded my life skills work under reading as there was no where to upload under life skills
Kai
Hi Kai. That’s great. Thank you for letting us know. Have a wonderful day!
I can’t even do green it’s because it’s so hard for me to understand
For the green questions, are you drawing the bars out? So for 4 and 1/3, you will need to draw 5 bars, each split into thirds. Then you need to put dots in all 3 sections of 4 of them, as you have 4 wholes. In the 5th bar, you just need to put a dot in one of the sections as you only have 1 out of the 3. Then you are taking away 2 and 2/3 so you can put a line through 2 of the full bars as you don’t have them any more and the put a cross in 2 other sections that have a dot in and you should have 1 and 2/3 left. You can use that same method for the other questions.
I hope that helps, but if that isn’t clear and watching the video again doesn’t help, then please don’t worry about it tonight. Leave it there and try tomorrow’s lesson.
I have done my Hillstone life skills. I have submitted it to today’s writing as there is no submit button.
That’s great. Thank you Mitchell!
Is there an Easier way yo to this type of math questions or are there only the ways you have shown us? Hope your all well and ok
From Katelyn 🙂 🌈 (^_^)
The strategies that Miss Kinsman uses to solve the problems are the best ones to use. Don’t worry about these now though. If you haven’t done so already, why not find a nice cosy space to sit and relax and listen to the retelling of Twelfth Night by Miss Kinsman – it’s her favourite Shakespeare play!
I’m really stuck on maths and I can’t understand please try and help me if you can hope your all well and safe.
From Katelyn 😭🌈 (^_^)
Which bit are you stuck on? Please don’t worry though, as even if you don’t quite understand it yet, we will be able to provide you with more help when we are back at school and remember to only spend half an hour on the maths questions as it’s important that you take breaks and do the other areas of the curriculum too 🙂
uploaded Hillstone Life Skills.
Wonderful. Thanks Mitchell.
I forgot to mention, when I’m watching mr kings video it lags a lot!
Thanks Theo – I will talk to Mr Carter
I have finished the hillstone life skills but i had a little bit of help from my mom and now all i am doing is PE
It is lovely that your mum helped you. Enjoy your PE lesson!
i have just tryed to do my AR but it didn’t work
The username isn’t working still
I have spoken with Mrs Gillett and she has tried and the new username and password that she has sent across definitely work. You won’t be able to access AR quizzes after 3:30 though, so try again tomorrow morning and let us know how you get on.
Any website because I don’t see one
No, you will just need to read all the different sections and think about the questions your being asked and complete the task that is set.
Do we have to send the comic strips
These are more for you, as a way to recognise and help overcome any barriers to learning that you have, but if you would like to share it, you can submit it via the button under today’s reading section.
Hillstone life skills that the laptop isn’t able to do okay.
I’m not sure what you mean here Mitchell?
Hi Mrs Bridges – we’ve managed to sort out where Mitch was struggling.
That’s great. Thank you so much for supporting Mitchell with his learning at home.
None of them are working for me
I’m sorry, I don’t know why that is. Perhaps, try searching on Google, or just use paper or draw it out on notes.
Is there a website for hillstone learning skills
I’m not sure what you mean Corey. Which website?
I have finished Barvember I have found it challenging but i think i have managedto do it
That’s great to hear Mitchell. It’s meant to be challenging (and if you found everything straightforward, you wouldn’t be learning anything), so it’s good to hear you persevered with it. You are doing a great job.
Im losing my patience with the links they are not working
What links aren’t working Jenson?
Possible apps and websites
I am just double checking them for you now.
This one is definitely working:https://www.makebeliefscomix.com/
And this one: https://www.storyboardthat.com/storyboard-creator

The math video has stopped working please help me with this problem if you can . I’m still working hard not giving up.
From Katelyn 🙂 🌈 (^_^)
I’m sorry to hear that Katelyn. It is working for me, so I am not sure what has happened. Could you try refreshing the page and starting the video again?
OK
good afternoon. I can’t do my AR quiz because my login and password isn’t working so i cant do my quiz and i have finished my book and also read 2 other books from home .Anyways i’m going to do hillstone life skills now speak to u letter.
Good afternoon Tabitha. I know Miss Kinsman and Mrs Gillett are both looking into this for you so someone will get back to you as soon as we are able to with more information. It’s wonderful to hear that you are reading so much though and I would certainly continue doing this – you can catch up on the AR quizzes when we sort out the issue that you’re having. Enjoy your afternoon!
ok thank you
Hi Tabitha,
I’ve checked your account and it is working fine from my end. In case you’re unsure of your login details, I have sent them to you via Marvellous Me. If you can’t access that, let me know and I can sort a different way of getting them to you.
Thanks,
Mrs Gillett
ok my mom has just told me but thank you for that
my om has told me my AR username thank you
have a nice afternoon
Tabitha
Wonderful. We look forward to hearing how you do on your quizzes!
I’m struggling with the personal barrier thing
Hi Alex. No problem at all. Which part is it that you’re struggling with?
The whole thing I don’t know what my personal barrier is
What do you find most challenging when it comes to learning (and this could be any subject in school, or anything that you do outside of school)?
mom says i don’t like trying new things for example food i’ve never had before. she’s says i’m fussy but other than that i’m not sure
Ok, that’s a great one to think about. So now you’ve identified a barrier, what do you usually do when it comes to trying new things? How do you get over the fear or just not wanting to do it? Do you seek encouragement from others, do you ask someone to try it first or try it with you or do you try and work it through yourself?
Thanks Miss I’ve done one now where do I send it
You’re welcome Alex. You can upload it via the button underneath the reading section. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon and thank you for persevering with this lesson!
Good afternoon
Good afternoon Kaisie! How are you getting on with your AR book?
Mrs Bridges didn’t you say you wanted a picture or my new dog if so how should I send it to you?
Sorry it’s meant to say of my new dog
That would be great Dan, and I know Miss Kinsman would love to see a photo too! You could send it via Twitter, or if you’d prefer, upload it via the button under the reading section and I will see it that way.
Also stay safe.
I got all the green and yellow questions correct. Hope your all well and ok.
From Katelyn 🙂 🌈 (^_^)
Well done Katelyn! I know how hard you’ve been working on those – it’s great to see it paying off. I am, thank you. I hope you are too. Stay safe.

I think it’s sent through but I’m not quite sure
Thanks Lara. Which work is it and did you click on the button under maths, reading or writing? Finally, does it have your name on it? Thanks for trying hard to get your work to us.
Hi
i have done all of the mornings work i found it a bit easy but hard.
STAY SAFE
Hi Tabitha. Have you been able to upload your work? Thank you, you too.
Hello I have done yesterday’s maths I’m not sure how to send it or who to send it to
Hi Lara. That’s great, thank you. Underneath the maths section is a button that says ‘submit work here’. If you take a photo of your work, you can then click on that button and upload it and Miss Kinsman will see it. She will send a Marvellous Me later today to everyone who submits their maths work.
hello just letting you know, im online i forgot to elier.
Hi Theo. That’s great. Thank you for letting us know. I hope you’re having a good day!
Hi, can I just check your receiving all of kian’s work from the past few days and today? Thanks
Hi. Miss Kinsman and Mrs Gillett have seen his writing and maths work and have sent a Marvellous Me message to say thank you. They offer feedback at the start of the lesson, either via an audio clip or a statement just above the video. I haven’t seen any reading work. If you haven’t downloaded the Marvellous Me app, I would highly recommend it. I know Mr King has all the login details if you don’t have these. Thank you for your continued support with Kian’s home learning.
He’s definitely sent all subjects over for the past 3 days, though some may not have his name on. I’ve received the MarvellousMe notifications, so thank you for those. Let me know what’s missing and I’ll get him to resend them over . Thanks again.
Just the reading is missing, so if he could send them again with his name on that would be great. If he could make sure his name is on all future work that would be really helpful. Thank you.
maths been sent.
Wonderful. Thank you Anthony.
