Year 6 Monday 25th January 2021

Good morning Year 6 and happy Monday.

Welcome to our virtual page. As we are all living under the restrictions of a national lockdown, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day.  New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are available in the comments section should you require any support.

We hope you enjoy today’s lessons.  Please stay safe.

From Miss Kinsman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Gillett.

Since recording this, there is now an update from school: All children must still join in with our fabulous writing, maths and reading lessons and we are still here to answer your comments and on hand to help with any problems. When you have finished these lessons – and if you are able to – you may wish to go and play in the snow. Please do upload any photos of your snow adventures to Twitter so we can see how much fun you’re all having.

Have the loveliest day! Mrs Bridges, Miss Kinsman and Mrs Gillett.

Today’s timetable.

9:00-9:15

Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading an extract from The Happy News (image below) which I think we could all do with right now, before writing begins.

An interesting fact to start your day:

9:15-10:15

Writing

Thank you for all the writing sent in last Thursday; here’s some feedback for you:

Today’s video is below. As well as a big pause at the end for your main task, do remember to pause the video when instructed for the mini tasks too. And, as always, please do use the comments section below for any questions you may have. The other resources you need for the lesson are underneath the video.

Here are the resources referred to in the video:

If you usually use work with a teaching assistant at the start of a writing lesson, and use a sheet for writing with prompt questions on, here is today’s task. You will also need to download the images PDF. I would suggest watching just the final four minutes of the video.

10:15-10:30

Enjoy a quick break.

10:30-11:30

Maths

Warm up: Countdown. Click here for website and play three game or for 10 minutes.

For yesterday’s answers click here.

Feedback from yesterday: You are all really understanding this; well done. Please just be careful with fractions like 1/8 or ones that have a recurring number, like 2/6, as sometimes you are forgetting to work these out using division.

Watch the lesson above, pausing at the appropriate times to complete any questions.

Now click here for your question sheet. Remember you can re-watch parts of the video to help you answer the questions.

Click here for the pink questions only if you are finding the work tricky.

Miss Hodgkinson’s group: warm-up click here and, for 10 minutes, practise the times tables you are currently working on.

Miss Hodgkinson’s group: watch the lesson below.

Miss Hodgkinson’s group: AL and JF click here for your questions. KK and KB click here for your questions.

11:30-11:45

Grab a piece of fruit and a drink and let’s watch Newsround together.

11:45-12:30

Reading

Feedback from Thursday: I am pleased to see lots of you continuing to use the text really well when finding answers to questions.

A top tip for questions that ask what a word means: once you have thought of your answer, try replacing the word in the sentence with your word and see if it sounds right. If it doesn’t, try a different word.

Watch the video below for today’s lesson.

Pause and re-watch the video any time you need to. Any resources you need for the lesson will be underneath the video. Please remember to place you name on any work you submit, and if you need any help at all, please ask in the comments section.

Miss Hodgkinson’s group: click on the links below and complete each session.

Part 1: speed sounds

Part 2: yellow book

Part 3: hold a sentence

Click here if you would like to choose a different book to read.

12:30-13:30

Enjoy your lunch and we will see you back here at 13.30.

13:30-13:50

Accelerated Reader

Read your Accelerated Reader book. Let us know how you get on with your quizzes.

13:50-15:20

Fun in the snow.

Go out and enjoy the snow. Complete one of the activities below.

Please take photos or videos of whichever activity you choose and upload to Twitter @hillstoneps (include your name and year group) so we can see what you are getting up to!

  1. Have a snowball fight.
  2. Build a snowman or monster.
  3. Make a snow maze
  4. Make snow angels.
  5. Build a snow fort, castle or igloo.
  6. Play a giant game of noughts and crosses in the snow. Draw the board and use twigs and acorns as Xs and Os.
  7. Make different tracks in the snow. For example, point your feet out and stagger them to create tractor tire marks.
  8. Play a game of bowling using snowballs.
  9. Have a snowball throwing contest.
  10. Play snow ball toss.  Draw circles to aim at with points in.
  11. Have a scavenger hunt.
  12. Go out searching for animal tracks.
  13. Make a pyramid out of snowballs.
  14. Write your name in the snow, like you would on a beach.
  15. Host a snow Olympics.

Or you could draw a winter scene. Click here for a step by step example or draw your own.

Please upload to Twitter @hillstoneps (include your name and year group).

        1. Skye, all you need to do is planning ready for tomorrow’s writing.

Re-watch Mrs Gillett’s film clip and there is a black slide that tells you.

    1. 7 pizzas shared between 8 children. Think about the calculation needed. Your answer will be a decimal as there aren’t enough pizzas for one each.

  2. Hi miss I wont be able to send my work in because my laptop does not have a cam
