Good morning Year 6 and happy Friday.
Welcome to our virtual page. We would like you to log in every day to access your learning. As we are now in a national lockdown, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day. New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are available in the comments section should you require any support.
We hope you enjoy today’s lessons. Please stay safe.
From Miss Kinsman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Gillett.
Watch the welcome message to see if you are this week’s Hillstone Star.
Today’s timetable.
9:00-9:15
Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading an extract from The Happy News (image below) which I think we could all do with right now, before writing begins.

Spelling
Our spelling rule this week is adding the prefix dis- and in-.
First of all, watch this short video on BBC as a reminder about these spelling rules. Once you’ve completed this, have a go at some of the games/activities on this webpage.
dis- and in- are added to the beginning of words to form words with the opposite meaning
The root word does not change; the prefix is simply added to the beginning of it.
agree = disagree trust = distrust correct = incorrect active = inactive
The spellings to practise are below.
inaudible
inactive
incorrect
incredible
disloyal
distrust
disagree
disappear
disobey
Take a look at the Spelling Menu below, which has tonnes of incredibly fun and different ideas and activities that will help you learn your spellings, and choose 1 or 2 to complete in your work book or on your iPad/laptop.
Now you’ve learnt about the spelling rule, you need to click on the link below to continue practising this spelling rule on SpellingFrame. Once you are happy and confident, complete the spelling test.

Maths
Warm up: complete level 6, fractions, mixed on Daily 10. Please click here. Hopefully your are getting quicker at answering these questions now.
For yesterday’s answers, including the pink questions, click here.
Feedback from yesterday: Remember the fraction needs to be out of 100 before it can be converted into a percentage. 1/8, 1/4 etc need to be converted into decimals before becoming percentages.
Watch the lesson above, pausing at the appropriate times to complete any questions.
If you have a printer, please click here and print off Tarsia. Cut out and match up equivalent fractions, decimals and percentages.
If not then click here for your question sheet.
Click here for the pink questions only if you are finding the work difficult.
Miss Hodgkinson’s group: warm-up by watching, and joining in with, the two short film clips below.

Art
Today is the final art session for this topic and I can’t wait to see the work you have produced. I am sure it is fabulous.
For today’s art lesson, there are a few different options. You will need:
- a pencil, pencil crayons or pastels
- your work from last week
- a copy of the courtroom scene of your choice (this can be on your iPad or laptop)
The courtroom scenes are available below, if you need them.
Depending on what materials you have at home, to finish your final piece, choose one of the following:
Using a pencil, go over the outline of your image, making sure it really stands out against the white paper. You could choose to use the pencil to create different shades within the image too.
Using pencil crayons of similar colours to the image you have chosen, carefully add colour to your image.
If you have pastels, find pastels of suitable colours. You can blend pastels together by combining two or more colours and using your finger (or toilet paper works really well for this) to rub them together, creating a new colour with more depth to it. Use these to add colour to your drawing.
14:50-15:20
PE
There are a few options for your PE sessions, each day.
- Follow along with Joe Wicks, on his YouTube channel here, where he will be back to doing live workouts every morning at 9am. You can catch up with these in the afternoon, or shift your day around so you start the day this way and follow along live.
- Check out the activities on Coach’s PE From Home page here and choose one (or more!) to complete.
- Go for some exercise outdoors, whether it’s a walk, a jog, a run or something else.
- Choose an activity from Youth Sports Trust. You can find a list of fun activities here.
If you are able to, please take photos or videos of whichever activity you choose and upload to Twitter @hillstoneps (include your name and year group) so we can see what you are getting up to!
