Year 6 Monday 1st February 2021

Good morning Year 6 and happy Monday.

Welcome to our virtual page. As we are all living under the restrictions of a national lockdown, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day.  New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are available in the comments section should you require any support.

We hope you enjoy today’s lessons.  Do send us in photos of your work using the buttons on this page, and remembering to include your name! And, please stay safe.

From Miss Kinsman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Gillett.

Today’s timetable.

9:00-9:15

Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading an extract from The Happy News (image below) which I think we could all do with right now, before writing begins.

In the spirit of the recent cold weather we have had:

9:15-10:15

Writing

Thank you for all the thesaurus work sent in last Thursday: I thought you had chosen your words well and that they enhanced the effectiveness of the passage you were asked to edit.

The head of the Police Now Detective scheme has been really impressed with your learning and has set us another challenge. Find out more in the video below. Please do ask for help via comments or email us (year6@hillstone.org.uk)

Here is the newspaper article model text that I look at in the video with you.

If you usually work with a teaching assistant at the start of a lesson and use a sheet for writing with prompt questions on, please open the document below for today’s task information.

10:15-10:30

Enjoy a quick break.

PE

There are a few options for your PE sessions, each day.

  1. Follow along with Joe Wicks, on his YouTube channel here, where he will be back to doing live workouts every morning at 9am. You can catch up with these in the afternoon, or shift your day around so you start the day this way and follow along live.
  2. Check out the activities on Coach’s PE From Home page here and choose one (or more!) to complete.
  3. Go for some exercise outdoors, whether it’s a walk, a jog, a run or something else.
  4. Choose an activity from Youth Sports Trust. You can find a list of fun activities here.

If you are able to, please take photos or videos of whichever activity you choose and upload to Twitter @hillstoneps (include your name and year group) so we can see what you are getting up to!

    1. Make sure to watch the whole video and it will be clear that you aren’t writing any paragraphs as such today; instead, you need to generate some questions for each of the people I am going to interview as part of our newspaper article task.

        1. What is it you are struggling with Skye? Remember to watch the video as many times as you need and pause and re-watch different sections so you understand exactly what Mrs Gillett is asking. Her videos are really clear and helpful.

    1. Good morning, Katelyn. No worries – as long as you fit in your learning, that’s what matters. I hope you enjoy writing. All good here, thanks – hope you are safe and well too!

    1. Hi Ruby. Here is the link for the Oak Academy: https://classroom.thenational.academy/subjects-by-key-stage/key-stage-2

I would ensure that you spend the time completing the lessons fully on our virtual school, before heading to this website though, as our lessons are following the correct year 6 curriculum and targets and linked to our topics. They should also take the time specified to complete them to the best of your ability and don’t forget to submit your work so me, Miss Kinsman and Mrs Gillett can see how you’re getting on and send you some feedback via Marvellous Me.

So I would focus on that, rather than completing extra work, unless you really want to do that in your own time 🙂 Make sure you also find time to relax and do things that you enjoy too.
