Year 6 Thursday 11th February

Good morning Year 6 and happy Thursday.

Welcome to our virtual page. As we are all living under the restrictions of a national lockdown, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day.  New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are available in the comments section should you require any support.

We hope you enjoy today’s lessons.  Please stay safe.

From Miss Kinsman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Gillett.

Today’s timetable.

9:00-9:15

Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading an extract from The Happy News (image below) which I think we could all do with right now, before writing begins.

9:15-10:15

Writing

Thank you for all the notes sent in yesterday – you have prepared well for today’s writing task.

Today, you are writing a full letter on behalf of Derek Smith, so please ensure you write all of the letter rather than just the same amount as I show you in shared writing! Throughout the video, I give you an idea of how long to spend on each task, so please do use this information to guide you.

For those of you who usually work with a teaching assistant at the start of a lesson (and who then use a sheet with questions on), your task sheet is below. The audio file is also for you to use and is explained fully in the task sheet.

10:15-10:30

Enjoy a quick break.

French

Welcome to our final lesson in our Au Café topic. If you have missed any of the French lessons this half-term, I suggest you complete one of those now rather than this final lesson. Enjoy!

14:50-15:20

PE

There are a few options for your PE sessions, each day.

  1. Follow along with Joe Wicks, on his YouTube channel here, where he will be back to doing live workouts every morning at 9am. You can catch up with these in the afternoon, or shift your day around so you start the day this way and follow along live.
  2. Check out the activities on Coach’s PE From Home page here and choose one (or more!) to complete.
  3. Go for some exercise outdoors, whether it’s a walk, a jog, a run or something else.
  4. Choose an activity from Youth Sports Trust. You can find a list of fun activities here.

If you are able to, please take photos or videos of whichever activity you choose and upload to Twitter @hillstoneps (include your name and year group) so we can see what you are getting up to!

15:20-15:35

Find a cosy space at home, then sit back and relax whilst listening to Mrs Bridges read some extracts from The Book of Hopes.

    1. Hi Alex. I’m sorry to hear that about your internet. Are you having lots of problems with it? Thank you, and well done, for persevering with your work. If it becomes too difficult to work in that way then don’t worry about it for today but do let us know and we can see if there is a way we can help 🙂

      1. We don’t normally have this much problems but there is me and brother using it, he’s having problems with teams and I can’t play the videos on here but it seems to be better if only one of us is using it

        1. Thanks Alex. I am speaking with Mr King and Mr Carter to see if there is a way that the school can help at all. Hopefully, it will be sorted soon so that you are both able to access and use it without any issues.

          1. Haha! I totally sympathise with her. I’m not sure the hammer will help with its temperament though 🙂
