Our artist for this term is Waggoner. Waggoner created a famous picture of The Great Fire of London just after the fire in 1666.

Have a look at the picture below. What can you see? What materials do you think have been used to create it?

Waggoner; The Great Fire of London, 1666; City of London Corporation; http://www.artuk.org/artworks/the-great-fire-of-london-1666-51336

Waggoner created this piece of artwork using oil pastels. Oil pastels are very different to the materials we’ve used before such as paint, crayons but they are similar to wax crayons.

The video below will show you the different techniques you can explore when using oil pastels.

Over the next few weeks we will be creating our own piece of Great Fire of London artwork.

The first thing we need to do is create our background to replicate the fire. Using any materials you have (paint, crayons, oil pastels if you have them) you can use some of the techniques shown above to make our ‘fire’ background. Keep working on it until you have something that looks like this:

Keep your artwork safe. We are going to add to it next week!

For today’s wellbeing lesson we’re going to think about how we can stay connected with our friends and family. There are lots of different ways and it would be lovely for us to have something we can look at to remind us how we are staying connected.

There are some ideas underneath, but we’d love to hear some of the was you have of keeping in touch with the people you care about.

Remember, you don’t have to print the sheet underneath, you can just copy it into your Hillstone Virtual School book in your own way.

Don’t forget, you can share your work from today with your teachers by clicking the button below to upload your work. Please remember to put your name on it!

When you press the button there is also the option to email your work to us. This is the best way to send so that we can reply!

    1. Hello, I’m pleased to hear that Mia has accessed the virtual school this morning. I hope you are all keeping well. Thank you for checking in with us. Enjoy the weekend πŸ™‚

        1. The day’s learning is usually updated first thing in the morning to allow everybody the chance to access the day. However, at the bottom of the day’s learning, there is a set of page numbers that you can click, these will take you to each day of learning. This will be accessible at any time during the whole week. When the week has finished, the week of learning will be on the main Year 1 Virtual Classroom page underneath the ‘Today’s lesson’ chalkboard. I hope this helps πŸ™‚

    1. I did see and I have just sent her Marvellous Me badges. The lesson for today was for them to retell the story of the Great Fire of London using their text map from yesterday. I hope that helps.
