Year 2 Week beginning 25th January

Wednesday 27th January

Good news! We now have a place where you can send your work to us. When you finish a lesson, please take a photograph of it and submit by click on the ‘Super Work’ image below. Make sure your name is written on the work clearly. We look forward to seeing what you have done today!

Click here to share your work with us.

Let’s recap what we’ve learnt so far about tally charts and pictographs. Click on the pictograph game and answer the questions about the data you collect.

Today, we will be using the data you collected on Monday to make a block graph. Watch my video below to find out how block graphs are a little different to pictograms.

Click here for a blank block graph for you to use to present your data. Remember to label and title it clearly so we know the information your graph is sharing. If you’d prefer to draw out your own graph in your workbook, that’s fine too!

If you didn’t complete Monday’s lesson, use my tally chart by clicking here.

After you’ve completed your block graph, if you’d like an additional challenge, why not try presenting the data in a creative way? See below for some inspiration.

And finally, as it’s Wednesday, spend 10 minutes on Times Table Rock Stars.

These are the suggested activities for your RWI group, however, you can have a go at any of the activities listed below.

PINK/ORANGE Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling.

YELLOW Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling.

BLUE/GREY Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling.

ALL GROUPS – Listen again to the story of the Queen’s Orang-utan and follow the text on the screen. Join in with more of the reading this time through – or have a go at your ‘Queen’s’ voice. (How would an orang-utan talk if it could talk to humans?)

OFF RWI GROUP Answer the questions about the text. Watch the video to give you some help.

Look through the answers to the questions. Tick or fix where you may need to make changes.

Carry on with your daily reading by choosing a book (at the right stage for your child) from the Oxford Owl library. This is the link to the information you need to access Oxford Owl. Once you are onto the website you can choose a book at your RWI phonics level OR from your book band level.

YOU CAN NOW VISIT THE VIRTUAL LIBRARY PAGE . This is ideal if you are looking for more to read.

Click here to see a range of ideas for questions you can ask your child about the text they are reading.

Click on the ‘Topic’ sign above for today’s topic lessons.

Today’ story isn’t a story! Mrs Driver is going to read some riddles for you to guess the answers.

  1. I have uploaded kylans work ,maths,English and his topic work. i can not also log in to the oxford owl iv put the right things in but still will not let me log in, kylan was upset not to get to read a book on there today. so he will be reading one of his own books

    1. You have done a great job today with Kylan’s learning. I have sent Marvellous Me badges for all that he has done (he’ll probably get to see these later.) I did try ringing at lunchtime with the TTRS login, but could only leave a message on the landline. I have sent a Marvellous Me Message with the log in so it can be passed on to you. Thanks for trying with the Oxford Owl site – I’ll look into this. Have a great weekend.

      1. Hi Mrs Driver, Moutasim did do the deposit Maths challenge, it’s the different additions which add up to 10, at the bottom of the Maths page.

  2. Ayaans mum here sorry for not checking in yesterday haven been feeling well not to good today either hope if I recover over weekend then next week will.be good

    1. Oh no! I’m sorry to hear you are not feeling well. At least the virtual school is easy enough for Ayaan to access by himself as long as you supervise. I will add him to the register for yesterday too.

          1. Mrs Driver I filled my shaker with rice and pasta to make different sounds 😀 I really enjoyed making it.

        1. Hi there, I don’t have access to his log in from home, but I can ask someone at school to see if they can forward it to me. If I get it in time I will ring you with the log in. Alternatively, play Hit The Button (just google that title and the game should come up) and you can concentrate on the times tables he is working on 2,5,10 and possible 3s. Hope this helps.

    1. Oh my! We didn’t want you to have an accident, Antonina. You deserve to be Hillstone Star. Am I allowed to tweet some of the photos you have sent in to put on the school homepage?

    1. Sorry about the delay, but we found the Maths work quiet long, so we had to go out for a walk. He understands it, but hates writing it out. We have uploaded it finally and read The Rainbow Machine from Oxford Reading series. Also, uploaded Hillstone Life Skills.
