Year 2 Week beginning 25th January

Monday 25th January

Today, all children should complete our maths and English lessons. We will be here to answer any of your questions and to look at your work. Remember to comment below so that we know that you are here when we take our register. When you have completed the maths and English lessons you may wish to go and play in the snow. There is a topic lesson on our topic page but you may prefer to complete this a different day so that you can have fun in the snow. If you have any photos of your snow play, your parents can Tweet them by adding @hillstoneps and we can all see them.

Good news! We now have a place where you can send your work to us. When you finish a lesson, please take a photograph of it and submit by click on the ‘Super Work’ image below. Make sure your name is written on the work clearly. We look forward to seeing what you have done today!

Let’s warm up our arithmetic skills with Shark Place Value. Select ‘Up to 99,’ and then try ‘Up to 999.’

This week in maths, we will be handling data. The word ‘data’ means information and we can present information in lots of different ways, like in tables, charts or graphs. Data handling is also known as statistics.

Today we’re looking at tally charts. Watch this video to see how a tally chart is used to record the scores for a game of crazy golf, then watch my video below.

Click here for the car tally template and here for the royal baby template. If you have a super idea of your own for your tally work today, click here for a blank template.

Draw a tally chart out in your workbook if you can’t print the sheets.

IMPORTANT! Keep hold of your tally work today as you’ll need it for WEDNESDAY’s lesson.

It’s a Monday! Which means 10 minutes on Times Table Rock Stars is on our timetable today. Click the link to the right to access the website.

Carry on with your daily reading by choosing a book (at the right stage for your child) from the Oxford Owl library. This is the link to the information you need to access Oxford Owl. Once you are onto the website you can choose a book at your RWI phonics level OR from your book band level.

Click here to see a range of ideas for questions you can ask your child about the text they are reading.

Click on the ‘Topic’ sign above to see today’s topic lessons.

Today’s story is called ‘Willy the Wimp’ by Anthony Browne. Mrs Sheehan reads today’s story.

  1. I have uploaded kylans work ,maths,English and his topic work. i can not also log in to the oxford owl iv put the right things in but still will not let me log in, kylan was upset not to get to read a book on there today. so he will be reading one of his own books

    1. You have done a great job today with Kylan’s learning. I have sent Marvellous Me badges for all that he has done (he’ll probably get to see these later.) I did try ringing at lunchtime with the TTRS login, but could only leave a message on the landline. I have sent a Marvellous Me Message with the log in so it can be passed on to you. Thanks for trying with the Oxford Owl site – I’ll look into this. Have a great weekend.

      1. Hi Mrs Driver, Moutasim did do the deposit Maths challenge, it’s the different additions which add up to 10, at the bottom of the Maths page.

  2. Ayaans mum here sorry for not checking in yesterday haven been feeling well not to good today either hope if I recover over weekend then next week will.be good

    1. Oh no! I’m sorry to hear you are not feeling well. At least the virtual school is easy enough for Ayaan to access by himself as long as you supervise. I will add him to the register for yesterday too.

          1. Mrs Driver I filled my shaker with rice and pasta to make different sounds 😀 I really enjoyed making it.

        1. Hi there, I don’t have access to his log in from home, but I can ask someone at school to see if they can forward it to me. If I get it in time I will ring you with the log in. Alternatively, play Hit The Button (just google that title and the game should come up) and you can concentrate on the times tables he is working on 2,5,10 and possible 3s. Hope this helps.

    1. Oh my! We didn’t want you to have an accident, Antonina. You deserve to be Hillstone Star. Am I allowed to tweet some of the photos you have sent in to put on the school homepage?

    1. Sorry about the delay, but we found the Maths work quiet long, so we had to go out for a walk. He understands it, but hates writing it out. We have uploaded it finally and read The Rainbow Machine from Oxford Reading series. Also, uploaded Hillstone Life Skills.
