We would like you to log in into virtual school every day to access the learning. It is crucial that we maintain a routine that is as close as possible to a normal school day. New learning will be available each weekday and we ask that you leave us a comment (questions or messages) you have for your teacher. These will be answered daily so don’t hesitate to comment should you need any support or just want to check-in. Any work that you do, remember to tweet it @hillstoneps.

Most importantly, make sure to stay safe! Have a great day!

Remember to sign in by saying ‘Hi’ in the comments box.

Good News!
We now have a place that you can send your work to us. When you finish a lesson, please take a photo of what you have done and submit it here. Please make sure your name is written clearly somewhere on the photo.
We’re looking forward to seeing your work!

Short TED Talk Video: “The secret to giving great feedback ...

Feedback from yesterday: There was some fantastic vocabulary gathered yesterday. The words you came up with will make a great poem. However, some of you forgot to write your ‘base poem’ so you will need to do that quickly, (using the vocabulary from yesterday) before you can start the lesson today.

Today we will edit and improve our poems. Below is a quick and very helpful lesson from the Oak National Academy explaining and showing us why editing is so important. Then I want us to expand our noun phrases and make the best poem we can. Watch me expand mine!

Feedback from yesterday: Most of you accurately measured the perimeter of the shape, but there were a few inaccuracies. Remember the top tip that Miss Thornton gave you about drawing around the shape with a felt tip. Or you could drag your finger around the screen (if you couldn’t print it out) and each square your finger passes would be 1cm.

Today, we will be continuing our work on perimeter. You will need some grid paper to work on for a few of the tasks. You can download this along with today’s lesson below.

Guided Reading

Short TED Talk Video: “The secret to giving great feedback ...

Feedback from yesterday: You used the new vocabulary well. I’m so glad that you are enjoying the story. Listen to it again today and make sure that you pay close attention. You are going to need to really concentrate on the important parts of the story today.

The Rhythm of the Rain: Amazon.co.uk: Baker-Smith, Grahame, Baker-Smith, Grahame: 9781787410145: Books

Listen to the story again. Today we are going to create a story board for the main events that happen up until the jar of water reaches the ocean. Don’t go any further than that. Watch my video to help you with the first box and so that you can see what is expected of you.

Your task today: Read the first part of the story again and complete the story board.

Have a look at my example below

Download the story board template by clicking on the link below. This will be enough for both days work. So don’t fill up all of the boxes today.

Time to sit back and enjoy the story. Before you do this why not try some deep breathing exercises to calm your mind.
