Good morning Year 6 and happy Friday.
Welcome to our virtual page. We would like you to log in every day to access your learning. As we are now in a national lockdown, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day. New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are available in the comments section should you require any support.
We hope you enjoy todayโs lessons. Please stay safe.

Today’s timetable.
9:00-9:15
Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading an extract from The Happy News (image below) which I think we could all do with right now, before writing begins.

Spelling
Our spelling rule this week is adding the prefix -im.
First of all, watch this short video on BBC, read the information underneath it and make notes about this spelling rule. Once you’ve completed this, have a go at some of the games/activities on this webpage.
Im- is added to words that begin with ‘m’, ‘ p‘, or ‘b’ to form words with the opposite meaning.
The root word does not change; the prefix is simply added to the beginning of it.
moral = immoral perfect = imperfect mature = immature possible = impossible
The spellings to practise are below.
immature
immortal
immoral
immeasurable
imperfect
impossible
impatient
impractical
Have a look at the document below to get an idea of the different ways you could practise these spellings. Choose at least two to complete in the time you have.
Now you’ve learnt about the spelling rule, you need to click on the link below to continue practising this spelling rule on SpellingFrame. Once you are happy and confident, complete the spelling test.

Maths
Warm up: play Guardians of Mathematica. Click here for the website.
For yesterday’s answers, including the pink questions, click here.
Feedback from yesterday: You really seemed to get this; well done. The only fractions I noticed we were struggling on were 1/8 and 3/4. Remember we need to divide these as they can not easily be made into tenths or hundredths. I go over this again in the film clip so do not panic.
Watch the lesson above, pausing at the appropriate times to complete any questions.
Now click here for your question sheet. Remember you can re-watch parts of the video to help you answer the questions.
Click here for the pink questions only if you are finding the work difficult.
Miss Hodgkinson’s group: warm-up click here and, for 10 minutes, practise the times tables you are currently working on.
Miss Hodgkinson’s group: watch the lesson below.

Read your Accelerated Reader book. Let us know how you get on with your quizzes.

Art
For today’s art lesson, you are continuing to sketch the outline of your chosen courtroom scene. You will need:
- a pencil
- your work from last week
- a copy of the courtroom scene of your choice (this can be on your iPad or laptop)
The courtroom scenes are available below, if you need them.
Continue to use a pencil to very gently (don’t press down hard) sketch the outline of that courtroom scene. You can see my example, and the example of some children’s last year, below.
If you you would like a reminder of how I first attempted this, then watch the video below to see me have a go and share my top tips at how to be successful.
The aim for today’s session is to complete the entire outline of your courtroom scene. Please send photos of your work so we can see how you’re getting on. I know they will be fantastic!
14:50-15:20
PE
There are a few options for your PE sessions, each day.
- Follow along with Joe Wicks, on his YouTube channel here, where he will be back to doing live workouts every morning at 9am. You can catch up with these in the afternoon, or shift your day around so you start the day this way and follow along live.
- Check out the activities on Coach’s PE From Home page here and choose one (or more!) to complete.
- Go for some exercise outdoors, whether it’s a walk, a jog, a run or something else.
- Choose an activity from Youth Sports Trust. You can find a list of fun activities here.
If you are able to, please take photos or videos of whichever activity you choose and upload to Twitter @hillstoneps (include your name and year group) so we can see what you are getting up to!
