Good morning Year 6 and happy Friday.
Welcome to our virtual page. We would like you to log in every day to access your learning. As we are now in a national lockdown, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day. New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are available in the comments section should you require any support.
We hope you enjoy today’s lessons. Please stay safe.
From Miss Kinsman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Gillett.
Watch the welcome message to see if you are this week’s Hillstone Star.
As this week is Children’s Mental Health Week, each day we have a different story and a video that will help you with breathing and meditation techniques if you would like to give it a go. We hope that these will be helpful and enjoyable and you will find them at the bottom of each day’s page.
Today’s timetable.
9:00-9:15
Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading an extract from The Happy News (image below) which I think we could all do with right now, before writing begins.
9:15-9:45
Drama
Click on the link below for this week’s drama video from Bhav! Please do upload any photos or videos to Twitter @HillstonePS (with your name and year group).
9:45 – 10:15
Spelling
Watch the video below for today’s spelling lesson.
To watch the BBC video, please click here.
Complete at least one of the activities on the spelling menu, with this week’s spellings. If you have time, you may want to complete another or use some of the SpellingFrame games to continue working on this rule.
Now you’ve learnt about the spelling rule, don’t forget you need to be tested on the spellings. You can do this with an adult or older sibling at home or on SpellingFrame.
Miss Hodgkinson’s group: click on the links below and complete each session.
Part 1: speed sounds
Click here if you would like to choose a different book to read.
10:15-10:30
Enjoy a quick break.
10:30-11:30
Maths
Warm up: play Sea Life. Click here for the website.
For yesterday’s answers, including the pink questions, click here.
Feedback from yesterday: Super work being sent in; thank you. In fact, someone sent me some excellent work that they said their mom helped them with. Please can you let me know if it was you as I couldn’t see a name. 25% and 15% are still tricky for some of you.
25% = 1/4 so divide by 4.
15% use the bar model so you need one full square for 10% and half the amount in another square for 5% then add them together.
Watch the lesson above, pausing at the appropriate times to complete any questions.
Now click here for your question sheet. Remember you can re-watch parts of the video to help you answer the questions.
Click here for the pink questions only if you are finding the work difficult.
Miss Hodgkinson’s group: warm-up click here and, for 10 minutes, practise the times tables you are currently working on.
Miss Hodgkinson’s group: watch the two short clips.
Miss Hodgkinson’s group: AL and JF click here for your questions. KK and KB click here for your questions.
Miss Hodgkinson’s group: when you have completed your sheet click here to do your test. AL and JF 5 times table. KK and KB 3 times table. Let me know your score.
11:30-11:45
Grab a piece of fruit and a drink and let’s watch Newsround together.
11:45-12:30
Children’s Mental Health Week
Find a cosy space at home, then sit back and relax whilst watching and listening to the book chosen today, specifically for Children’s Mental Health Week.
If you haven’t done so already this week, please make sure you watch and listen to all the stories read aloud this week. You will find them at the bottom of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday’s pages.
Meditation can be a really lovely way to help you become, and stay, calm and relaxed. Watch the video below for a guide on how to do this successfully. Remember, everything takes practise, so don’t worry if you can’t do this the first few times you have a go. The more you do it, the better you will get and the easier it will become.
As you know, this week is Children’s Mental Health Week. Place 2Be teamed up with BAFTA Kids and Oak National Academy to create a free assembly featuring pupils and well known-faces discussing the theme of ‘Express Yourself’.
Enjoy the assembly and remember you can pause and re-watch or complete suggested activities.
Here are some suggested discussion points and things to try at home or in class:
- 08:04: How do you like to express yourself creatively? How does it make you feel?
- 09:24: If you could design your own hat (or other item of clothing) to express yourself, what would it be like and why?
- 16:08: Why not have a go at your own Draw your Feelings activity? Check out our 2 minute demo video.
- 19:41: If you had magical powers, what spell would you cast for Children’s Mental Health Week?
- 23:44: Could you have a go at the BAFTA Young Presenter competition? Find out more.
You can find other virtual sessions on creatively expressing yourself (through art, music, dance, writing and acting) here.
12:30-13:30
Enjoy your lunch and we will see you back here at 13.30.
13:30-13:50
Accelerated Reader
Read your Accelerated Reader book. Let us know how you get on with your quizzes.
Click here to visit our Virtual Library.
13:50-14:30
PE
There are a few options for your PE sessions, each day.
- Follow along with Joe Wicks, on his YouTube channel here, where he will be back to doing live workouts every morning at 9am. You can catch up with these in the afternoon, or shift your day around so you start the day this way and follow along live.
- Check out the activities on Coach’s PE From Home page here and choose one (or more!) to complete.
- Go for some exercise outdoors, whether it’s a walk, a jog, a run or something else.
- Choose an activity from Youth Sports Trust. You can find a list of fun activities here.
If you are able to, please take photos or videos of whichever activity you choose and upload to Twitter @hillstoneps (include your name and year group) so we can see what you are getting up to!
14:30 – 15:15
