Year 6 Wednesday 27th January 2021

Good morning Year 6 and happy Wednesday.

Welcome to our virtual page. As we are all living under the restrictions of a national lockdown, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day.  New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are available in the comments section should you require any support.

We hope you enjoy today’s lessons.  Please stay safe.

From Miss Kinsman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Gillett.

Today’s timetable.

9:00-9:15

Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading an extract from The Happy News (image below) which I think we could all do with right now, before writing begins.

Some every day heroes to celebrate. Who is your every day hero?

9:15-10:15

Writing

Thank you for all the writing sent in yesterday; here’s some feedback for you:

In today’s lesson, you will complete your recount and continue to practise using semi-colons and colons in your sentences. The video below guides you through the lesson and gives suggested timings for each task I set; however, please do reach me in the comments section below if doing so if you want to ask or check something during the lesson.

If you usually work with a teaching assistant at the start of a writing lesson and use a sheet for writing with prompt questions on, below is today’s task. It is similar to previous days, so choose a different image and focus on working on your own personal targets whilst writing.

Below is a PDF containing the various different mysterious images.

10:15-10:30

Enjoy a quick break.

10:30-11:30

Feedback from yesterday: A great start to your work on percentages, well done. Remember to make your fractions out of 100 before converting them in to a percentage.

Watch the lesson above, pausing at the appropriate times to complete any questions.

Now click here for your question sheet. Remember you can re-watch parts of the video to help you answer the questions.

Click here for the pink questions only if you are finding the work tricky.

Miss Hodgkinson’s group: warm-up click here and, for 10 minutes, practise the times tables you are currently working on.

Grab a piece of fruit and a drink and let’s watch Newsround together.

11:45-12:30

Reading

Feedback from yesterday: I was really pleased with the majority of your reading answers yesterday. You’ve had a good understanding of the text you read and clearly referred back to the text to support your ideas. If there is something for you specifically to work on, I have sent a Marvellous Me to your parent/carer.

Watch the video below for today’s lesson.

Pause and re-watch the video any time you need to. Any resources you need for the lesson will be underneath the video. Please remember to place you name on any work you submit, and if you need any help at all, please ask in the comments section.

Watch Amanda Gorman’s interview here.

To hear the poem, watch the video below.

To download a copy of the poem, click on the button below.

PE

There are a few options for your PE sessions, each day.

  1. Follow along with Joe Wicks, on his YouTube channel here, where he will be back to doing live workouts every morning at 9am. You can catch up with these in the afternoon, or shift your day around so you start the day this way and follow along live.
  2. Check out the activities on Coach’s PE From Home page here and choose one (or more!) to complete.
  3. Go for some exercise outdoors, whether it’s a walk, a jog, a run or something else.
  4. Choose an activity from Youth Sports Trust. You can find a list of fun activities here.

If you are able to, please take photos or videos of whichever activity you choose and upload to Twitter @hillstoneps (include your name and year group) so we can see what you are getting up to!

15:20-15:35

Find a cosy space at home, then sit back and relax whilst listening to Mrs Bridges read some extracts from The Book of Hopes.

    1. Hi Darcy! I am so sorry I missed this comment as I was checking the comments on today’s page (Thursday) so I didn’t see this, but really pleased that you were here with us today. I hope you’ve had a lovely day and that you have a nice, relaxing evening.

  1. I’m stuck on reading. I can read it but understanding it is another level. If there is anything you can do to help please let me know. Hope your all ok and safe.

    1. Forward and pause the video at 4:59 and answer the questions.

Then download the poem. For each verse or stanza summarise in a word or an image.

Forward it to 6:01 and Mrs Bridges shows you an example of what to do. You can use coloured pencils, felts, gel pens, etc.
