Year 2 Week beginning 22nd February

Tuesday 23rd February

Good news! We now have a place where you can send your work to us. When you finish a lesson, please take a photograph of it and submit by click on the ‘Super Work’ image below. Make sure your name is written on the work clearly. We look forward to seeing what you have done!

Click here to share your work with us.

We’ll be looking at symmetry today. You’ll need to cut out some basic shapes from your workbook for this lesson – a rectangle, a triangle, a circle and then cut out a random, irregular shape – as irregular as you can! I explain how to create these shapes from workbook paper in my video. If you can print, click here to print some shapes to explore your learning with today.

Watch my video, within which I ask you to spend 10 minutes on a symmetry sorting game as part of today’s learning (the game is just below.)

Please select to sort shapes.

Click here for the worksheet mentioned in the video if you would like to give it a go. It will be tricky without a mirror though – you may need to cut out copies of the shapes and fold if you can’t see the symmetry. Just find ONE line of symmetry on each shape. Suggested timing for lesson – 40minutes (including the video and game.)

If you’d prefer to play a game to develop your learning, then that’s fine! Play the matching game below for 10minutes.

We suggest you do the activities for your RWI group, but there is nothing stopping you from accessing the other activities too.

PINK/ORANGE Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling. + spelling activity below .

YELLOW Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling. + spelling activity below .

BLUE/GREY Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling. + spelling activity below.

OFF RWI group – Watch the video of Katie In London. Listen carefully to the story and try to follow the text on screen wherever possible. Remember, you can pause the video to read any text on screen.

You now have some questions about the beginning of the story. The questions are on this sheet ( you don’t need to print them if you want to work from the screen) and the video below takes you through them, one by one. Answers to the questions are here, but don’t mark your answers until you have had a go at them all. Remember it is O.K to fix answers if they are not correct, but let us see your corrections when you send in your work. Suggested timings – 15 minutes for the story and 30 minutes for the questions and answers.

ALL GROUPS – (suggested timing 25 minutes) Watch the spelling video below. You are going to find out how to add the suffixes er and est to adjectives.

Have a go at this wordsearch. You can do it online or you can print out the sheet here.

We now also have our VIRTUAL LIBRARY page. Here you have access to a range of other texts to read. You can decide if you want to read some fiction or non-fiction. Try to choose something you can read to yourself, or you might want to read to an adult.

PARENTS/CARERS Click here to see a range of ideas for questions you can ask your child about the text they are reading.

Click on the ‘Topic’ sign above for today’s topic lessons.

Today’s story is read by Miss Langford and it is called ‘Juice the Pig’.

    1. Hi there, Ethan. I hope you have watched the welcome video! Am I allowed to use some photos of you to Tweet later? Please let me know in the comments box.

  2. Hi, I have just uploaded todays work but have realised thier names are not on the story boards. Lukes has a green border and Leias has a pink border. Thanks

  3. Hi Mrs Driver, I have sent Moutasim’s maths, English and topic video and pictures. I have also included Tuesdays work as well. Moutasim finds the yoga more calming than the meditation and asking why was the blue frog sad? And why didn’t he talk earlier? And then concluded all he wanted was a friend because he was lonely.
