Year 6 Tuesday 2nd March 2021

Good morning Year 6 and happy Tuesday.

Welcome to our virtual page. As we are all living under the restrictions of a national lockdown, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day. New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are available in the comments section should you require any support.

We hope you enjoy today’s lessons.  Do send us in photos of your work using the buttons on this page, and remembering to include your name! And, please stay safe.

From Miss Kinsman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Gillett.

Today’s timetable.

9:00-9:15

Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading an extract from one of my favourite books, and taking some time to think about it.

Writing

Thank you for all the writing sent in yesterday. The best pieces showed really thoughtful use of language, especially figurative language. Individual feedback was sent via Marvellous Me to the grown-up of every child who submitted work to me.

Today’s learning video is below. As mentioned in the video, you should allow 35 minutes for the final writing task (including planning, writing, proofreading and submitting to me).

If you usually use a sheet for writing with prompt questions on – and work with a teaching assistant at the start of a writing lesson – here is today’s task:

10:15-10:30

Enjoy a quick break.

PE

There are a few options for your PE sessions, each day.

  1. Follow along with Joe Wicks, on his YouTube channel here, where he will be back to doing live workouts every morning at 9am. You can catch up with these in the afternoon, or shift your day around so you start the day this way and follow along live.
  2. Check out the activities on Coach’s PE From Home page here and choose one (or more!) to complete.
  3. Go for some exercise outdoors, whether it’s a walk, a jog, a run or something else.
  4. Choose an activity from Youth Sports Trust. You can find a list of fun activities here.

If you are able to, please take photos or videos of whichever activity you choose and upload to Twitter @hillstoneps (include your name and year group) so we can see what you are getting up to!

15:20-15:35

Find a cosy space at home, then sit back and relax whilst listening to Mrs Bridges read an extract from The Book of Hopes.

    1. I’m sorry to hear that Tabitha. The main focus of the writing is on revealing things about a character through how they talk, act and interact (with others). I have set you different scenarios in which Tim might find himself. You need to select a couple of these and write a paragraph which focuses on Tim in that situation and reveals what he is like. The example I do in the shared writing section of the video gives you a good idea of the kind of thing you are aiming for (but you need to write more than I do!)

    1. Thanks, Lexi. I’ve just taken a look and I can make out some of the words, but not all of it! Would you be able to take another photo and see whether you can make it a little clearer, please? Perhaps you can adjust the darkness of the photo after taking it? I really want to read what you have written, but it’s just not clear enough!

    1. All of us are back next Monday (8th March), but yes, school remains open for some children. For example, if a child lives with just their mum and mum works in a care home, she would be classed as a key worker and her child(ren) would be entitled to a place in school. This allows the mum to carry out her key worker job (a role that she cannot do from home). There are many other key worker jobs as well, and other reasons too why some children are still coming into school.

    1. Morning, Huma! It’s exciting, isn’t it? But I bet people are feeling a range of emotions about coming back too, which is absolutely normal!
