Year 6 Wednesday 24th February 2021

Good morning Year 6 and happy Wednesday.

Welcome to our virtual page. As we are all living under the restrictions of a national lockdown, we will maintain a routine which is as close as possible to a normal school day. New lessons will be uploaded every day and we are available in the comments section should you require any support.

We hope you enjoy today’s lessons.  Do send us in photos of your work using the buttons on this page, and remembering to include your name! And, please stay safe.

From Miss Kinsman, Mrs Bridges and Mrs Gillett.

Today’s timetable.

9:00-9:15

Good morning. Please say hello in the comments section below so we can mark you in on our registers. Settle in to the day by reading an extract from one of my favourite books, and taking some time to think about it.

PE

There are a few options for your PE sessions, each day.

  1. Follow along with Joe Wicks, on his YouTube channel here, where he will be back to doing live workouts every morning at 9am. You can catch up with these in the afternoon, or shift your day around so you start the day this way and follow along live.
  2. Check out the activities on Coach’s PE From Home page here and choose one (or more!) to complete.
  3. Go for some exercise outdoors, whether it’s a walk, a jog, a run or something else.
  4. Choose an activity from Youth Sports Trust. You can find a list of fun activities here.

If you are able to, please take photos or videos of whichever activity you choose and upload to Twitter @hillstoneps (include your name and year group) so we can see what you are getting up to!

15:20-15:35

Find a cosy space at home, then sit back and relax whilst listening to Mrs Bridges read some extracts from The Book of Hopes.

  1. Hello – are there any questions to work through for todays ready as Daniel can’t find them/the link? There is an upload of book pages but not the usual question upload.
    thanks 🙂

    1. Hi Daniel
I couldn’t see it on the film clip so I have had a look at the planning.
You have to answer the question:
What is this author’s impression of forensic scientists?
Use evidence from the text to justify your opinion.

EXT: How does it compare to the other author’s viewpoint?

          1. Thank you Huma, I have got today’s.
Don’t worry about yesterday’s work. When You marked it was there anything you needed help with?

  2. Miss I have a question about our secondary school offers my sister told me that we are going to be getting our offers on Monday the 1st of March but what will they be basing their acceptances on as we haven’t did our SATs?

    1. A few schools in Birmingham are selective, and for those, a separate entry test would have been sat (in October, I believe) but the vast majority of schools are not selective which means that academic ability or attainment does not influence whether you get a place. The distance you live from a school is a key determiner, but there are other factors too.

This link takes you to a PDF containing admissions information for every secondary in Birmingham.

  3. Miss I heard that we will be getting our offer from secondary school on Monday the 1st of March an I just wanted to ask what they will be basing their acceptances on as we haven’t did our SATs yet?? ⊙(・◇・)?⊙(・◇・)?

I just edited it because some letters were missing

    1. Thanks, Huma. I’ve just replied to you about this but on the message you posted on Tuesday’s page (after the end of the school day, hence it being replied to now).
