Year 2 Week beginning 11th January

Friday 15th January

We have some very exciting news for you all! Watch the video below to find out!

Good news! We now have a place where you can send your work to us. When you finish a lesson, please take a photograph of it and submit by click on the ‘Super Work’ image below. Make sure your name is written on the work clearly. We look forward to seeing what you have done!

Click here to share your work with us.

Every Friday, our maths lesson will focus on arithmetic. Today, we will be practising our times tables. Click on the ‘Hit the Button’ game and spend 10 minutes on your current Target Tables level. For example, if you are currently trying to pass your 5 times table Target Tables test in school, click on the x5s.

When I was in school, I used to love making fortune tellers (some people call them chatterboxes.) All you need is a piece of paper, a pen or pencil and a pair of scissors (or some really careful tearing!) Not only are they a lot of fun, but they can also help you to practise your times tables. Follow the video to have a go at making your own. Make sure you use times table questions that you find challenging to make sure you are really testing yourself.

If you’d prefer a ready made one, click here and here for some templates.

And finally, spend 10 minutes on Times Tables Rock Stars! We’ll check the stats online and let you know if you’re topping the year 2 leader board!

Today you are going to be writing your own fact file about someone you know well. Watch the video below to show you how to do it.

You can view the sheets here which are copies of the video slides, in case you are having trouble watching the video. Write your fact file in your workbook. Let us know in the comments box if you have completed this activity – there is no need to send a photograph with the grown up’s fact file details, unless your adult does not mind ‘sharing’ these details!

Carry on with your daily reading by choosing a book (at the right stage for your child) from the Oxford Owl library. This is the link to the information you need to access Oxford Owl. Once you are onto the website you can choose a book at your RWI phonics level OR from your book band level.

Click on the picture to read The Dragon Machine.

Click here to see a range of ideas for questions you can ask your child about the text they are reading.

Click on the ‘Topic’ sign above to see today’s topic lessons.

Today’s story is read by Mrs Sheehan. It’s called ‘Gorilla’ by Anthony Browne. We hope you enjoy it!

  1. Good afternoon year two,

I have just received some work with no name on. There is a fact file on Florence Nightingale and a fortune teller. Please let me know if it is yours!
    Thanks
    Miss Langford
