Year 2 Week beginning 8th February

Tuesday 9th February

Good news! We now have a place where you can send your work to us. When you finish a lesson, please take a photograph of it and submit by click on the ‘Super Work’ image below. Make sure your name is written on the work clearly. We look forward to seeing what you have done!

Click here to share your work with us.

We’ll be finding a third of a given amount today. It may be useful for you to have a strip of paper folded into thirds, as well as the items you used to help you to divide yesterday if you prefer to work practically. Today’s activities are within my video. You’ll need to pause when I ask you to, giving the tasks your best go in your workbook (suggested lesson time – 45 minutes.)

Click here for the answers to the task in the video. What can you learn from any corrections you made?

If you’re finding the work in the video a little difficult, don’t worry. Click here for a scaffolded task with a little more support instead. Suggested time on this sheet – 20 minutes (you will still need to watch my video.)

If you’d like a final challenge for today (and only if you’re after a bit more math’s work,) have a go at the game below. You’ll be applying all your learning so far on finding fractions of amounts. Make sure you have selected the Year 2 level at the top of the screen. Return to the year 1 level if you find it too tricky. Spend around 10 minutes on the game.

We suggest you do the activities for your RWI group, but there is nothing stopping you from accessing the other activities too.

PINK/ORANGE Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling. + spelling activity below (orange video).

YELLOW Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling. + spelling activity below (orange video).

BLUE/GREY Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling. + spelling activity below (orange video).

OFF RWI group – (suggested timing – 45 minutes with breaks). It’s time to finish the story you are writing and then go back and edit. Follow the instruction video below if you had chosen to do the CHALLENGE, which demonstrates how to write the final part of your story and make improvements. If you chose to try something slightly easier, you will be finishing writing your story using the story guidelines and video from yesterday. BE PROUD of what you have achieved – your very own story!

CHALLENGE VERSION Read your story to someone else – remember to sound like a storyteller!

ALL GROUPS – (suggested timing 25 minutes) Watch the spelling video below. You have learned how to add -ed to verbs to put them in the past tense, but there are some verbs that just DO NOT follow the rules. These are called irregular verbs. The activity is to match the present tense and past tense verbs on the sheet – cut it up if you want to, or write them out in pairs. To show you understand, write a pairs of verbs in sentences in your books. The video shows you just how to do it!

We now also have our VIRTUAL LIBRARY page. Here you have access to a range of other texts to read. You can decide if you want to read some fiction or non-fiction. Try to choose something you can read to yourself, or you might want to read to an adult.

PARENTS/CARERS Click here to see a range of ideas for questions you can ask your child about the text they are reading.

Click on the ‘Topic’ sign above for today’s topic lessons.

Today’s story is read by Miss Perks and it’s called ‘Voices in the Park’ by Anthony Browne
