Year 2 Week beginning 8th February

Monday 8th February

Good news! We now have a place where you can send your work to us. When you finish a lesson, please take a photograph of it and submit by click on the ‘Super Work’ image below. Make sure your name is written on the work clearly. We look forward to seeing what you have done today!

Click here to share your work with us.

We will be continuing with fractions this week. Watch the first video below as a reminder of last week’s learning. Then watch my video. You will need your workbook and a strip of paper. A group of around 40 small, identical objects (such as lego pieces, skittles or pennies) may also prove useful when dividing today, if you’d prefer to work practically.

If you’d like to use the ladybird worksheet mentioned in the video, then click here. The answers to today’s task are included within this sheet for you to tick or fix. Remember, mistakes are a good thing – we learn from them! I suggest approximately 50 minutes for the videos and task combined, but this is just a guideline. Break the lesson up into smaller chunks if you need to.

If you find the task in the video a little tricky, click here for a scaffolded task with a little more support instead. This won’t take as long as the task set in the video – perhaps around 20minutes (you will still need to watch my video.)

It’s a Monday! Which means 10 minutes on Times Table Rock Stars is on our timetable today. Click the link to the right to access the website.

We suggest you try the RWI activities listed below for your group. However, this does not stop you from trying any of the other activities too!

PINK /ORANGE Speed sound reading and speed sound spelling. You can also do Word Time and Hold A Sentence. Take a short break between each video.

YELLOW Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling. You can also do Word Time and Hold a Sentence. Take a short break between each video.

BLUE/GREY Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling. You can also do Reading longer words and Hold A Sentence. take a short break between each video.

OFF RWI Group Activity Today you are going to start to write your own version of a story about the Queen. Hopefully, you have your plan for the story ready from Friday. If not, DON’T PANIC you can use my completed plan here. Follow the instruction video below . There’s quite a lot of writing to do today, but I’m sure you are up for a CHALLENGE! There is an EASIER VERSION of the story writing you can try instead in the second video – so the choice is yours! These activities should take about 45 minutes, so you you may need a break when you are writing.

For the easier version of the story you may want to print this sheet, although you can write directly into your workbook.

ALL GROUPS can have a go at this join today, o to l. Follow the video and pause it so that you can practise a line of each join or word. This should only take 10 minutes, so practise a little more each day.

We now have our VIRTUAL LIBRARY page. Here you have access to a range of other texts to read. You can choose from fiction or non-fiction. If you choose a book that you like, but might be a little too hard, ask if someone else can share it with you.

Click here to see a range of ideas for questions you can ask your child about the text they are reading.

Click on the ‘Topic’ sign above to see today’s topic lessons.

Mrs Alexander reads today’s story. It’s called ‘After the Storm’ by Nick Butterworth.

  1. Hi Miss, Can you please advise if you received my other work (topic) apart from English and maths. Which in maths I was able to answer the questions.

    1. Hi, Ethan. I got a photo of you baking and a picture of an alien. Was there any topic work related to what was on the Virtual school that I have missed?

  2. Moutasim has completed his maths and English and will hopefully be completing more later. On Mondayโ€™s he finds it hard to settle back in.
