Year 2 Week beginning 8th February

Monday 8th February

Good news! We now have a place where you can send your work to us. When you finish a lesson, please take a photograph of it and submit by click on the ‘Super Work’ image below. Make sure your name is written on the work clearly. We look forward to seeing what you have done today!

Click here to share your work with us.

We will be continuing with fractions this week. Watch the first video below as a reminder of last week’s learning. Then watch my video. You will need your workbook and a strip of paper. A group of around 40 small, identical objects (such as lego pieces, skittles or pennies) may also prove useful when dividing today, if you’d prefer to work practically.

If you’d like to use the ladybird worksheet mentioned in the video, then click here. The answers to today’s task are included within this sheet for you to tick or fix. Remember, mistakes are a good thing – we learn from them! I suggest approximately 50 minutes for the videos and task combined, but this is just a guideline. Break the lesson up into smaller chunks if you need to.

If you find the task in the video a little tricky, click here for a scaffolded task with a little more support instead. This won’t take as long as the task set in the video – perhaps around 20minutes (you will still need to watch my video.)

It’s a Monday! Which means 10 minutes on Times Table Rock Stars is on our timetable today. Click the link to the right to access the website.

We suggest you try the RWI activities listed below for your group. However, this does not stop you from trying any of the other activities too!

PINK /ORANGE Speed sound reading and speed sound spelling. You can also do Word Time and Hold A Sentence. Take a short break between each video.

YELLOW Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling. You can also do Word Time and Hold a Sentence. Take a short break between each video.

BLUE/GREY Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling. You can also do Reading longer words and Hold A Sentence. take a short break between each video.

OFF RWI Group Activity Today you are going to start to write your own version of a story about the Queen. Hopefully, you have your plan for the story ready from Friday. If not, DON’T PANIC you can use my completed plan here. Follow the instruction video below . There’s quite a lot of writing to do today, but I’m sure you are up for a CHALLENGE! There is an EASIER VERSION of the story writing you can try instead in the second video – so the choice is yours! These activities should take about 45 minutes, so you you may need a break when you are writing.

For the easier version of the story you may want to print this sheet, although you can write directly into your workbook.

ALL GROUPS can have a go at this join today, o to l. Follow the video and pause it so that you can practise a line of each join or word. This should only take 10 minutes, so practise a little more each day.

We now have our VIRTUAL LIBRARY page. Here you have access to a range of other texts to read. You can choose from fiction or non-fiction. If you choose a book that you like, but might be a little too hard, ask if someone else can share it with you.

Click here to see a range of ideas for questions you can ask your child about the text they are reading.

Click on the ‘Topic’ sign above to see today’s topic lessons.

Mrs Alexander reads today’s story. It’s called ‘After the Storm’ by Nick Butterworth.

    1. Hello Antonina! Thank you for registering. Miss Langford was very impressed with your cushion yesterday. I think she’d like to order to one for Teddy!

    1. Hi Leo. Thank you for letting me know. If you could send a photo of anything you’ve had a go at today, we’d love to see it so we can send you a Marvellous Me badge!

    1. Thank you so much for sending it in. I’m marking the work that has been sent in now so listen out for those Marvellous Me pings coming your way shortly!

    1. Sounds like you’ve been working very hard, Moutasim! what a super effort. I’m looking through the work now so I’ll send over some feedback shortly.

    1. Hi,
See if this video loads https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcHHhd6HizI . If so, just watch the first minute of it (it goes beyond what we need to learn after that.) We are only focusing on how 2/4 is the same as 1/2. It may be best that Jaxson just works practically today to explore this. Can he show us with strips of paper? Or even a sandwich?

Are the videos not loading because of internet speed? If so, I can contact the school about supporting you with this if you’d like me to?

    1. Hi there, Lexi! It’s Mrs Sheehan on the virtual school today, but I’ll be sure to let Miss Langford know how enthusiastic you are about your learning.

  1. I have had my cello lesson this morning. My grandad buys me a big bag of smarties when I have done good work Mrs Driver I will bring you some in when we are back at school 🍬

    1. I would like to hear your cello playing! I would love to have a go at playing a double bass! It’s really kind of you (and grandad) but I think I need to stay away from sweets at the moment!

  2. Jaxson has tried to do the maths this morning but the video from his teacher does not load, and we don’t have a printer to do the worksheet, is there something else he can do? I don’t have enough supplies to be making and cutting everything out

    1. Hello, I’m sorry you can’t load the video! We are dividing into thirds, so draw three circles in his workbook to represent the thirds and then draw/share dots between the circles equally. First, try sharing 12… how many in each circle? Each circle is a third, so 1/3 of 12 is 4. Try again with these numbers… 15, 9, 18. Try 7 as well – what happens? If Jaxson does not want to draw, use lego bricks /coins/toy cars/Cheerios and share them into three groups. Each group will be a third. Try the game as well if you want a challenge. Hope this helps.
