Year 2 Week beginning 8th February

Wednesday 10th February

Good news! We now have a place where you can send your work to us. When you finish a lesson, please take a photograph of it and submit by click on the ‘Super Work’ image below. Make sure your name is written on the work clearly. We look forward to seeing what you have done today!

We’ll be learning about equivalent fractions today. Equivalent fractions? Sounds scary!

They’re not as scary as they sound! And remember, a teacher is always available to help you if you find today’s work hard – just message! If you find the main task a little challenging, keep scrolling down to find a practical task or a game you could try instead.

This is a fraction wall. It will be really useful to refer back to today. I explain what it is in my video, so watch that first. Then click, and join in, with the second video. Today’s lesson, with the videos included, could take around 45minutes.

Click here for today’s work. If you are copying the answers down into your workbook, miss out questions 3 and 8b (unless you want to give drawing and shading the shapes a go.)

Click here for today’s answers. Did you get any wrong? If so, that’s fine! What did you learn from your mistakes?

Alternatively, if the worksheet proves a little tricky (and that’s okay,) feel free to get creative when exploring equivalent fractions today. Send in your pictures of how you have represented 1/2 and 2/4 using items around your home. See below for inspiration!

And finally, as it’s Wednesday, spend 10 minutes on Times Table Rock Stars.

These are the suggested activities for your RWI group, however, you can have a go at any of the activities listed below.

PINK/ORANGE Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling.

YELLOW Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling.

BLUE/GREY Speed sound reading and Speed sound spelling.

ALL GROUPS – Today we have another story about the Queen – The Queen’s Knickers! I’m pretty sure this is all made up! The video does not have the words on it, so there is a sheet you can follow if you are able to print it off. Do not worry if you can’t print it, just enjoy the story!

OFF RWI GROUP (suggested timing – 30 minutes) After listening to the story, here are some questions for you to answer about the text. You can print out the sheets, and write on them, or you can look at the sheets and write your answers in your workbooks. The instruction video below goes through the questions with you, and there is an answer sheet where you can check your answers and tick and fix where you need to.

Here are the answers for you to self-mark and tick OR fix. Remember, our best learning comes when we look back at where we may have gone wrong and think about how to change our answers.

ALL GROUPS – Spend a few minutes today practising these joins. Do a little each day so that you are used to how your pencil moves across the page with these joins and words.

We now have our VIRTUAL LIBRARY page. Here you have access to a range of other texts to read. You can choose from fiction or non-fiction, but choose wisely from the selection and enjoy what you are reading!

Click here to see a range of ideas for questions you can ask your child about the text they are reading.

Click on the ‘Topic’ sign above for today’s topic lessons.

Why not listen to a poem instead of a story today? It’s called ‘Chocolate Cake’ and it’s written and performed by Michael Rosen.
